Julian
Julian,

The suspension is I've had the oppptunity to give it a proper run and its a huge improvement over the O.E. set-up. It's even considerably better just driving around town - well worthwhile IMO.

As for which car to get the only real way to know is to drive both and make your own mind up. Remember a WR1 had the PPP and prodrive springs etc as standard so will be better than a standard uk STI.

If your about on the run this weekend give me a shout and i'll take you out for a run

As has been said, do a search and you'll no doubt reveal - JDM STI by a long way and the only man to go see about it is Iain Litchfield. I went UK originally, even ordered one and cancelled it losing my deposit to go JDM. Spoke to Iain Lit, got the ball in motion and hey presto the one I'm after pops up. Fate I dare say . Not long now till arrives on our shores

I haven't compared underseal of a UK car and a JDM car side by side, but I can tell you that Japanese winters are cold and they do use salt on the road, nice refined white stuff, none of the red rock salt malarchy So I'm not sure there's that much different TBH.

Also Imprezas in Japan are serviced more regularly than in the UK. The standard service interval for oil changes are 6000 km and a subarist (subaru enthusiast) will change oil every 3000 km. I kid you not !

I should be getting my JDM WRX on the road in about 2 weeks with a bit of luck

I pay £500 a year for my 03 JDM STI through A-Plan, not bad for a 300+ bhp car. You get all the toys with the Jap STI, DCCD-A, HID headlights, 13:1 quick rack, front Suretrack LSD, rear wash/wipe etc. The JDM also has a stronger engine but..... and its a big but ... you lose that classic burble from not having the unequal length headers, miss that a lot!

Agreed, the folding rear seat is handy, but gotta be Jap all the way.

But then I would say that.

No seriously, compared to the UK cars I've driven the Japs got more bang

Test drove an MY05 UK STi PPP and MY05 JDM STi within 2 hours of each other. No contest - I'm now the proud owner of the JDM! It has AST whiteline adjustable suspension which helps a lot - the UK car felt really unsettled - so perhaps the comparison was not totally fair. But it was the engine, performance and extras that swung it for me.

Agree with everything everyone says - both good and bad - so it really is down to personal preference. As an aside, I didn't know that UK cars had folding rear seats as my MY01 WRX saloon didn't, and I never thought to check that in the UK STi

I pay £469 fully comp, £300 excess through A-plan by the way - one advantage of no longer being able to class myself, strictly, as a *boy* racer any more
