Just a though but woundn't it be best to purchase 2001 onwards 316mm disc from the Budeye STi as these will fit directly over the handbrake a rear hub without any modifications. You would only require a caliper mounting bracket in order to extend the fixing point for the caliper and when your discs wear out you can purchase a direct replacements for 130 pounds. This would avoid the hassle of pressing a insert to ensure a secure fit everytime your discs wear out.

I think simon is now looking at larger shoes to fit the STI disk, with these only operating the hand brake they should last for years

Did bugeye STI's have the 170mm handbrake drum then???
I thought brembo disc's 2001-2004 were all the same and the only difference after that was the PCD change.

My discs are from an 06 and the PCD has been re drilled and as Kev has said I have moved away from an insert and decided to just get the larger shoes to bring the handbrake from 170mm to the 190mm of the 06 hub.

If the bugeye sti are 170mm ?? that is a good option for anyone looking to do this upgrade that has not got the parts but since I have and they are all brand new I just as well go with what I have here.

As Danny say's I'm sure this would have been discussed if it was the case.

When I think of it I may have found a Brembo touch up paint

I'm just talking with a Honda dealer that sells on the bay, they are looking to see if they can get hold of the paint code found on NASIOC only thing is it's an american colour so they are checking... there is a european one very similar that should be available so I'll go with that if needed, it's virtuallly the same.... and I can order on line which will save some work.

I'll post my findings as I'm sure one or two may be interested.

I did ask in Halford's, they had it on file but they do not stock one of the base pearlesant colours so that was a short lived idea

Default Godspeed starting to sell thicker shoes for 190mm discs.

Here some info taken about Godspeed carring out a simular idea to Simon's by using thicker shoes. Also quotes that bugeye's handbrake drums are 170mm and not 190mm?.

The Subaru 2 pots are very easy to fit as the 290mm discs have the same size handbrake as the classic 266mm discs , but the STi's have been a problem up until now as the handbrake is larger at 190mm compared to the bugeye's and classics 170mm drum.

I have seen various sites trying out inserts ect to make the drum smaller , some work and some dont , the main problem is fixing it in properly so on a hill the insert doesnt slip in the drum making it useless , seen others fitting grub screws and bolts ect , but that may make the ballance way out then , and with all that comes a load of work to do , also meaning expence.

Godspeeds answer to this problem , he's had thicker shoe's made to fill up the 190mm drum , so fricking easy its scarey

There is no modification to fit them , fairly cheap to get , so you had better start buying all those cheap rear brembo's kits flying around that no one thinks will fit.

Pure Genius

Chris

I think you will find that Simon is carrying out a similar idea to Godspeed's , not the other way round

Have you seen this ?
Classic Impreza 2 Pot & Brembo Rear Fitting Kits with Handbrake Modification

Yes the bugeye 290mm discs have a 170mm handbrake shoe , so if your fitting the Subaru 2 pots and 290mm discs the handbrake doesn't need touching , you only need the thicker hanbrake shoes if your fitting the Gold STi Brembo calipers and 316mm discs , but the bracket kit is the same for both coversions.

I would then say that the STi Gold brembo's must fit onto a bugeye WRX then , with putting thicker shoes on for the handbrake.

Yes that's correct I'm taking the enlarged shoe idea and working with it to save making reducers to bring the inner 316 disc down to 170mm.... I'm also working to make the bracket DIY style to save a few ££
Still work in progress though got a while to go yet.

Gold touch up on order I'll keep you up to date on that one

Dean that's a great job well done

We have not been able to start mine yet it's been a bit of a pain in work this week and not been able to steal the time
When your ready for the dry fit out drop me a call I'll bring the hub home from work and I'll dig the caliper and disc out for us to assemble your bracket onto. I've got everything crossed that we can make a start next week.

Touch up paint has arrived I've dropped the first coat on... near match as possible I think it's not bad at all just adding a few light coats as not to over paint it. It's not heat resistant but since it's just touch up I'm not to worried... time will tell on it.

Si it would be good if we could try a dry fit next weekend if you can bring the hub and caliper home with you, may need a few tweeks to get it to bolt up, which i can sort out in work before i finish on the 8th.
If it doesn't bolt up then i can check if the center of the caliper lines up with the center of the disk, if not work out how mush extra needs to be machined off.

I have made the difference between the 2 faces (between the red lines) 1mm for now, looks about 2mm in the pic but i can always take a bit more off.

If you have a rear caliper handy could you take a pic of the back of it for me and email it to me??

Cheers Si, looking at the pic of the back of the calipers the bracket still needs a few modifications.
I've sent you a mail back.

Good news on the Handbrake shoes, i've just won a set on ebay for £11 including P&P so we've now got a spare set to get re-lined.

Not a problem Si, thanks for the last couple of measurements, should be all done by tomorrow. Started rounding the corners off to go into the caliper, 2 r done, the other 2 need to go down by about other 1mm, doing it with a hacksaw and file so quite hard work.

Looks like i've sort some Brembo's now just got to wait for them to turn up, but u can still borrow the bracket for a while, coz i've got to get some braided lines and some DOT 5.1 fluid to do at the same time and still got to get the handbrake shoes sorted.

Probably give you a call tomorrow evening, possibly arrange to meet up on wednesday night if that's ok with you.

If you could send me the info that would be great.

I'm not really in a massive rush to get them on, one of my mates dads may be able to re-line the shoes for free for me, but he on hols at the mo, so i'll wait to here off him first.
