Ok guys, I think its time I set the record straight...
Its my video, I shot it so I am obviously driving the camera car.
The cossie is a guy called matt who is a member of surrey scoobies, the day in question was one of our surrey meets which starts with a very nice bit of dual carriageway.
I decided to let matt go first followed by the pack of scoobies for the ultimate "hunted" effect, I gave it some in 1st, 2nd and then lifted off to get some space for filming.
Matt's cossie was almost standard and it took very little for the scoobies to catch him, the scoobies were held back and only allowed to go on my signal.
The cossie has now undergone a bit of work but back then he wanted to keep it original.
I never expected this video to get broadcast the way it has as it was only ever posted in our forums after that meet over a year ago.

The project thread that Matt posted up on Surrey Scoobies has not been updated but he was going for 350 bhp plus with a modded gearbox etc.
The car is a minter and went well in std form, compared to my car?? in all honesty I dont know as I was filming and didnt want my ego to spoil what has turned out to be a very good video, i have the full lenght version here on my pc of the drive to the pub but will not post it.

Heres a print out of kevin sharps 1/4 mile times in he`s escort cossie from a acouple of years ago it may even be quicker now, and people say there not quick cars

I never had any major problems.
But then I never had any problems with gearboxes either so I have no idea what thats all about
Graham Goode once told me that I should have my own rebuilt and shot peened if I went for their 420bhp conv. but I never had it done unfortunately
My 430bhp saff ran a standard T5 box but then they were known for being very strong anyhow.

How much easier do you want it..
Inline 4 cyl, 2ltr turbo, twin cam, no gay maf sensor to break on all but the last T28 small turbo varients.
Man the turbo is on one side, the intake on the other.. Its all laid out infront of you. Whats hard about that??
The only car i can think of to work on thats easier is the 950cc fiesta i drive to and from work everyday

Highly modified one I had to work on once, gearbox removal amongst other things, most of the bolts were siezed,or knackered the threads on the way out. perhaps it was just the fact underneath wasn't well looked after and in the process of doing the job it wound me up enough that I never want to see another one.
Couldn't even get to the freakin oil filter IIRC.

I assure you theyre normally a piece of **** to work on. Another thing that makes me laugh is how many people moan @ how unreliable thay are.. This is simply not the case.. Like any engine, build it properly and it will be bulletproof if properly setup and maintained.
I kicked the granny out of my last one for over 18months,... Never ever once did it let me down. I also knew plenty of people that were running well over 400, some 450bhp for years at a time and they were faultless.
One rather famous 3 door cossie in the tuning circle has been running over 550bhp for the last 7 years without a rebuild..

do you reckon there is a Lambo club forum where they slag off the Aston Martin club for being Fat boys ?
Ive had Cossies and RS Turbos and GTI's,GTE's and all that stuff and now Im on the scoob and I have enjoyed them all.............except the Astra GTE that was shocking !!!!!
Im off to find an EVO owner to tell him his cars poo

Have owned three scoobys but still love the cossies particularly the escort.When I passed my test a cossie was the car you dreamed of owning even if you could afford the insurance.Its dated looking now and uses old technology but its an RS and will always be special.

This is all fairly daft really. You can modify any car to beat any other car. Put a rocket in a Suzuki Jeep and it'll wipe the floor with a 1000hp Cossie.
I think the arguement should be which is the better car, and in that regard the Scooby (new age anyway) wins hands down.

Unfortunately TOTB has become more of a "How fast can you afford to pay your tuner to go" event. They haven't given up. Just can't afford to compete with tuner backed cars (on slicks and race fuel) when they only turn up on Optimax/V-Power and road tyres as it's an event meant to be for road cars.

Too the Cossies, dont see them over here, but my childhood dream was always an RS500. I´d love one of those today.

Supra's and vipers are never going to win outright, but still at least put the effort in to try.
Unfortunately, and it is a great shame the cosworth isn't up there any more. It seems to me, rather than try to innovate using what they have at there disposal, they stuck to tried and tested early 90's ideas. Then gave up when they stopped being the fastest thing on 4 wheels.
Don't get me wrong, I do love cosworths. Imprezas are just better.
