Unfortunately, and it is a great shame the cosworth isn't up there any more. It seems to me, rather than try to innovate using what they have at there disposal, they stuck to tried and tested early 90's ideas. Then gave up when they stopped being the fastest thing on 4 wheels.
Don't get me wrong, I do love cosworths. Imprezas are just better.

A friend of mine can't run slicks as the first time he tried, he stripped every tooth off his diff. He can't afford the stronger diff so perseveres with the road tyres and still manages 11.4 quarters at 130+mph. His car was built on a budget (the car is pretty much a standard car with big brakes, a Quaife diff and a poweful engine) and has no chance against the Impreza entries like Andy Forrest or the Evo entries of Norris Designs and RC Developments. The rest of the big budget/power Cossies are never ready in time or have no interest in the event.
Impreza better than a Cosworth. Depends how you define better although I agree that they are technically a better car. The difference between a 1986 Sierra Cosworth and a 1994 Escort Cosworth is very minimal with the only real developments being 4x4 so I would like to expect that the Impreza has a more advanced and up to date chassis and technology than the Cosworth cars.
