I can still remember a trip more than 30 years ago going to a war cemetry in Northern France looking for the grave of a distant great uncle. And if that doesn't bring a tear to the eye........

Yeah we had the same old boy knock on the door this year with the box. Made him smile when I asked if he was Trick or Treating

my grandfather spent months in the auschwitz pow camp (right next to concentration camp) he's never realy talked about it till the last time he was up, when you see films of prisoners being badly treated, food on the floor, beaten for no reason, it was real and happened. to forget what was sacraficed would be a tradgedy, and its a lesson we should never forget.

Only on the brit bases though. I had to explain to the missus (German ) why I had taken to wearing flowers.

She's not talking to me now. I don't know what her problem is. They started it.

Domestic violence against men is, sadly, a too-little reported offence.

Technically, I'm a "vet" myself. In comparison to the guys in the 2 world wars, I had a cushy and brief experience.

Bought several poppies so far because the previous one ends up still attached to the shirt I discarded the night before in the laundry.

I normally feel humbled at this time of year when I think of the sacrifices previous generations have made.

In the last few years I've begun to wonder if their sacrifice was worthwhile...

Wear one every year - with pride. Don't forget it isn't just about WW1 and WW2 (although having lost 14 members of my family in those two conflicts - it does tend to bring it home a bit), they also care for servicemen (and women) and their families from much more recent conflicts up to and lincluding the Falklands and the Gulf War, so don't just think it applies to a bunch of 'old blokes'.

I'll buy a few each year, and wear the poppy with pride.

I've been to all the war cemetaries at El Alamein, and it really does bring a tear to your eye to walk past rows of gravestones, particularly when its 17yr old boys lying in the ground, or brothers lying next to each other.

If we forget where we have been, we'll continue to make the same mistakes in the future....

got one today i always buy one and always will, always try and observe two minute silence. and always always always watch it on telly and make sure the kids understand it as well. apart from the fact that its the right thing to do. you should never forget and the krauts should never be allowed to forget.

you only have to watch band of brothers to see how amazingly brave teenage boys were in the war. i dont think i could handle the head**** of wiping my mates head off my kit could you?
