What an interesting subject ..........
We all break the law on speeding, its just so difficult to stick exactly within the law. I try to be as law abiding as possible but the cameras are money making machines and have nothing (or at least very little) to do with safety.
Just wait until all A and B roads are 40 or 50. Its coming to Roads near you, soon.
The new limits are being introduced along with road charging so as to make it not worthwhile in avoiding Motorways and Trunk road tolls. So where's the safety aspect there?

Future road tolls/pay as you go/congestion charging has nothing to do with safety but everything to do with extracting more money out of the motorist. Its supposidly a method to reduce congestion and green house gas emmissions and to get people out of their cars and onto public transport. It won't even replace road tax.
Its a sure fire win for the Government, people need to use cars and they know this, either for private use (try getting your weekly shopping home on public transport!!) or for commercial use. Costs of goods will increase and business' will charge it back to the general public cover the increase in costs for transporation and distribution. So you potentially get charged twice.
The cameras have been put in place on the proviso that they are there solely to prevent accidents. Governement research have now shown that these cameras are ineffective at reducing accidents and in some cases inaccurate, but will they abolish them, like f*ck they will!! It doesn't bother me as much that the fact that people get caught, what really bothers me is the fact that despite the recent research, they will still continue to use them as a means to get more money out of the general public and will continue to install more of these cash cow cameras by the roadside.

I don't think most of the issue is the existence of speed cameras but sometimes where they are put to deliberately trap motorists, if my Wife's 65 year old aunt who drives very cautiously and slowly has six points then there is something amiss.
Anyway, since when were you averse to breaking rules......
You should see him driving round in the Silver E class, smoking the streets of South Manchester thinking he is Tony Soprano.

Talking of traps, how about Gwent's lastest wheeze?
Her's a new "trick" from the scum in Gwent. Travelling down the A40 between Ross on Wye and Monmouth there is a little village called Pencraig. The village is sited each side of a dual carriageway that used to be NSL. The section through the village is now 50 MPH. Travelling Westbound this little hamlet is approached by a very long hill (uphill) and a gentle LH bend at the top at the top. On Friday night travelling down to Abergavenny to visit my mother in Hospital I noticed a new flashing sign o0n the bend that said 50 and then a photo of a camera. Fair enough I slowed down and drove sedately through the village. I also noticed a similar sign on the other side of the carriageway for East bound drivers.
Driving back today - as I approached thr village the sign had been switched off and Lo and Behold a couple of Gwents "finest" are sitting there, parked on a grass verge in a local Talivan nicking all and sundry. If the sign had been switched on probably all drivers would have reacted and slowed down so by turning the sign off it just becomes yet another revenue generating excercise
