Classic exhaust choice and why ?
#31
Just been browsing through the scoobynet archives and have found an exhaust which I really really like the look of. It TSL's 4" group N back box and system. These never seem to be mentioned on here at the minute, so I was wondering what everyone's views where on them ? Similiar in noise to scoobysport/magnex ? All comments welcome on quality and sound of TSL's stuff !!!!!
Thanks again !

Ninja sports cat downpipe, TSL decat centre, TSL 3" backbox. The sports cat recently replaced a TSL decat downpipe.
Never had any problem with the quality of TSL's exhaust, although I've not had any dealings with them for the past couple of years.

If you use the car everyday, do motorway runs, want to maintain good relations with your neighbours etc... then it has to be the H&S original design IMHO.
Loud backboxes are all well and good, but a volume that is tolerable when you've just changed the backbox can often become intolerable when you decat the rest of the system! I'd argue that for a daily driver a decat H&S original design is about as loud as you'd want to go (and get a resonated centre section too).
Apparently, the magnex systems are also good quality and produce a rumble of a sensible volume too!

PS If you're not going to change anything else, you'd probably like the Afterburner Vortex, which sounds very nice, but may be a bit much if you start decatting.

I had an Apexi N1 with standard downpipe which wasn't overly loud. Then had a BMP Twindump downpipe fitted and the noise increased a little bit. Noticed the N1 wasn't in the best shape so decided to change it for a Blitz Nur Spec R. The combined system was thus fully decatted and without the bung in the backbox, VERY loud.
If you have understanding neighbours or don't hoon it in and out of where you live you might be ok. I never got any complaints from neighbours about the car and my parents used to complain about the Apexi, but they said the Nur Spec was a lot quieter, which is odd.
The original ScoobySport system is recognised as being one of the best, and if you want a new one, then I'm sure that Hayward & Scott probably still have the specs and could make one for you. Not sure what the new ScoobySport backbox is like though.

on my last scoob it had a prodrice backbox, was quite quiet, certainly never hurt the ears no matter how i drove it and gave a bit of a louder tone when being heavy footed - imho a bit on the quiet side but i can see why it appeals to so many!
on my current scoob i have a STi backbox i believe and that again sounds quite similar to the prodrive one - both look nice too...
has anyone any experience of fully decatting an STi exhaust system & keeping the back box? Or how loud is that combination?

TSL group N with 4" out, TSL de-cat c/pipe, Magnex twindump de-cat downpipe.
sounds fantastic, pops and bangs etc etc but at 80 on the m/way it doesn't drowned you out.

Custom Made 3" stainless steel system with Jap style 4.5" exit on my MY00 Classic from the company owned by the guy who came over and trained the Long Life and Powerflow boys how to do it. Advantage of this was i had the exhaust tuned to how i wanted it, so it rumbles nicely at tick over, growls on acceleration and no noise cruising on motorways and for same price as a mass produced system. Bargain

I bought one of these originally from Scoobysport way back in 1998 - I think, and my mate still owns that car, now with 130,000 miles and the exhaust is still as good as new.
