The Bronze Rat.
And then there's the story of the tourist who walked into a Brighton curio/antique shop. After looking around for a while, he noticed a very life-like bronze statue of a rat. It had no price tag, but it was so striking that he decided to have it anyway. So he took it to the owner and said: "How much is this bronze rat?"
The owner replied: "It is £12 for the rat, and £100 for the story."
Well, the tourist gave the man his £12 and said: "I'll just take the rat, you can keep the story."
As he walked off down the street, he noticed that a few real rats had crawled out of the sewers and begun following him. This was a little disconcerting, so he started to walk a little faster but within a couple of blocks the swarm of rats had grown to hundreds and they were all squealing & screeching in a very menacing way.
He increased his speed & ran on towards the beach, and as he ran, he looked behind him and saw the rats now numbered in their MILLIONS, and they were running faster & faster. By now very concerned, he ran to the edge of the sea and threw the bronze rat far out into the water.
Amazingly, the millions of real rats jumped into the water after it and were all drowned.
The man walked back to relate all this to the shop owner, who said: "Ah, you've come back for the story then!"
"No," said the tourist - "I came back to see if you've got a bronze Muslim fundamentalist cleric and anything French.

When will BNP loonies stop spouting all this crap criticising this country they are supposedly so proud of and actually do something about change?
If laws have changed to enable no-win, no-fee it was to democratise access to law. It meant you either did not have to have a fortune and be privileged to pursue a case, or when a case was pursued it could be without the burden on the tax payer of legal aid.
Of course there are opportunities to take advantage of it - like any generalised system there are flaws.
But hey - try stop whining like the bunch of spoilt children that you are and get off your lazy ***** and come up with a better idea and go and lobby your MP

The same Human Rights drivel that allows you and I to disagree in open forum, or to have a vote, or to have wives, sisters and mothers who can vote.
All these were seen as abhorrent in times past and it was only human rights campaigners of their day, PC loony lefties if you like, that enabled these changes.
It is only through trial and error that we have created a model democracy. And we all have the opportunity to do something about it because of these basic human rights and freedoms. That trial and error must continue, and if we find errors then they need to be tested democratically and then corrected.

It should have enshrined in law a ruling to the effect of:
As soon as you commit a crime against person or property you automatically agree to a waiver.

Just like Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo.
Hey lets just lock people up for life and beat the **** out of them for being a bit shifty looking and having a swarthy complexion!
Of course there are lines to be drawn but the punishment for crime enshrined in much older laws than Blair is the removal of liberty not the pernicious application of abuse.
You are right about Human Responsibilities - we ALL have responsibilities to utilise our democratic right to do something about it if we don't like it.

Guantanamo. thats what i call a jail. introduce a few to britain and watch crime drop!
Guantanamo. to end up there you need to look more than just shifty, i cant understand why a pakistani is doing having a holiday on the afgan border in the middle of the war
and he is from britain. not only does he get released then goes to all the papers getting money from them and to take the **** even more sue the government, i might go out there for a hoilday might pay dividends.

Gatty,
I think he is referring to a bloke going to work on the tube and then being attacked by a bunch of armed police, held down and then shot seven times even though he was allegedly not resisting arrest or carrying anything suspicious (or even wearing a big coat as they initially claimed - because as we all know wearing a big coat is definately a sign of badness, or call me PC
).

The problem I have with the whole sad state of affairs around that time is that we have one dead commuter and 4 captured terrorists no doubt demanding human rights etc.
We all saw the pictures of the ***** pleading for their lives on that balcony - they should have had bullets in their heads.
Would have sent a much better message to our fundamentalist "brothers" !
I bet the fundamentalists are sitting there saying - look lads - the worst that can happen is you'll go to jail for 10 years then you can claim compo from the British Government

There is a training issue here though.
Police gunmen are supposed to be trained to have responsible and appropriate response. Shooting a man seven times AFTER he has been restrained is not really appropriate force.
I do agree that integration needs to be much better than it is and all indications are that moderates are trying to achieve that - witness what has been happening in Leeds post 7/7. The extremists will always make this difficult irrespective of colour and creed.

Shooting dead commuters should probably be avoided - For now.
Integration isn't going to happen.
We are a multi-cultured Country - We have to find a way to co-exist without feeling threatened by each other.
Which is not easy !

Legal aid supported PI cases was one of the few areas where tax payers money was virtually guaranteed to be recovered.Unlike the majority of cases where public funding is now available.
Case had to be assessed by the lawyer, then the old Legal aid board to ensure chances of success were high before any certificate was granted. If it was rubbish,it was going nowhere.
Now,any old potential junk claim is made. What have people got to lose?? 'The man in the town centre with a clipboard said it would cost me nothing'

It has created an actual culture that affects the whole country and the way people behave.Thats not just a 'flaw'
Where a government indirectly gains from something, nothing will ever change.
Human Rights Act is being used wholly out of context. The sooner we are rid of it the better

The rights we had before this incredibly stupid lefty version was perfectly adequate and we were also expected to show responsibility as someone said above-unlike the present. This is just encouraging the worst attitudes by the general public as well as anarchic behaviour.

That stupid woman in the 100% English programme was a prime example of the 'new' culture fostered by New Labour.
She tried to sue Channel 4 because the results of her DNA origins didn't fit in with her rather nasty self image.
They told her she was 40% Romany Gypsy
(and she proceeded to act like a pikey!!!)
