mates rx has gone bang, tips failed as i understand, lucky to get 60k miles out of them once tweeked so he was saying.
but considering how fast his is, i think it does sound like its poorly

on another note, he's having a full rebuild, respray, bodykit fitted over the winter, should be running 600bhp, with a full veilside kit and then he's gona stick 200bhp worth of nos on it so he was saying lol

When I got my RX it pulled a dozen car lengths on a tweaked classic from 40-140, then dyno'd at 180@wheels Standard for standard in full working order an FD will murder an Impreza. Like RobEvo5 I have owned both.
Was running around 440@wheels (1.4bar) when I did my last engine at round 3 of Time Attack this year, even with 5/6ths of the apex seals warped (so being 150bhp down) I ran a 12.4@115 at TOTB with 159mph over the standing mile. Should have been clocking 128-130mph terminals at Rotorstock but killed my diff at the top of 2nd gear on my first run, so limped over the line at 121mph.
Don't be sorry mate, This has put a smile on my face. you have just made me want to get my lap top out again and plug into wideband and lean it more and see what it does. I am running about 10.5afr at the top, and 11.5 is suppossed to be possible. So could see myself another a few more cheap GG's.

At 10.5 AFR I can smell the fuel on full chat so I don't even need my wideband to tell me its rich.

The worrying thing is my fuel map is already way less than generic maps I have seen with similar mods and yet I am still running rich. Leaning further will also give me more leeway with my injector duty.!

I don't profess to be a mapper (just someone thats picked up a few things along the way and enjoy trying to map, hence playing a little on the safe side. But when I have leaned a little it does not seem to have made any difference.

That said when my scoob was mapped by a pro- the extra power was like a light switch once you got past a certain point and got the mixture on the side of lean but safe. Guessing the RX7 is probably the same.

I am running an Apexi ECU and hancontroller and LM1 wideband and log works software to monitor AFR along with detcans. Ideally I should be running datalogit software as well. But can do enough on the Apexi handctroller and wideband, it just a little more labour intensive and takes longer.

To be honest, unless you have access to people that has a little experience I would not attempt it yourself. I have 2 very useful contacts that MAP.

That said and I will probably be shoot down in a ball of flames by the mappers for saying this but its not rocket science either. With the right equipement and software, a good base map in the first instance, and a head for logic and numbers it is possible to do it yourself.

If I didn't think I had a good base map in the first instance I would pay a proffesional to get the intial map and then tweak myself after.

Now that I am tempted to push the limits, I might live to regret the statement above and end up with a costly build. But life is all about experiences and you won't learn unless you try. For me the mapping and modding is all part of the fun. If you can afford the prospect of a build because you made a mistake then I would say go for it.

I would start with the basics with respect to your mates problem, and start with replacing plugs. as mentioned above that are a bit of a b*tch to get at like the scoobs and often dont get changed. I would look at electrics first if its a stutter and look at plugs and leads.

If he thinks its a hose, I would methodically go through every hose checking them for obvious splits or loose connections. There is plenty of them. If could be a failed solenoid or one of a hundred things to be honest. But I would start with the plugs and leads.
