What do the paying advertisers think of the current state of Scoobynet?

I know alot of people do complain with good reason about insurance now days (including me) but could you imagine if the insurance on these was cheap also

A lot of interesting points here, I currently dont own scoob but still use this forum regularly as I am a petrolhead.
New members are always welcomed by me when I see them as I was welcomed when I posted at first.
I also think that it is valid to have questions on your sub £3000 scoob as its likely you will be running on a budget and advice on here is free but asking a polite question and being flamed for spelling etc. will discourage users. When I was young and running the best I could afford(still do) I would have loved a chance to use a forum such as this.
Perhaps an ID check such as some sites use could be used to stop multi users abusing the system.
The sin bin idea?
Could we have an opinion on this thread from a mod. or is that not allowed?

I would be more than happy to pay an annual fee for using SN, I have been on here for 5 or 6 years now and was a plus memebr once, I did not renew it when ot lapsed because there seemed no point, next to nobody actually uses the subscription forums and alot of the decent memebrs who did not have plus membership could not access the subscription forums so I spent more and more time in the nos sub forums so was not getting anything out of my subs. Also as someone else mentioned why should I pay for something when I can use 75% of it for free! plus with all the trolls and bully boys on here it seemed pointless.
Someone else also mentioned that the majority of trolls on here are the affluent/intelligent members under different names, there is 2 types of trolling on here, the down right objectional type from useless idiots that deserve to be banned and the intelligent types that have an answer for everything and usually a clever one at that. Some of the trolling can be funny and it would be a shame to cut it out. I do think that there should be limits to user logins or maybe admin checks and approval on new members rather than let the BBS software just accept users.

As you can see on my comment I did highlight some.
Just to say that it was not my intention at all to target those that got themelves a baragin but just to enfacise the point of the increase in number of members.... I am sorry if anyone felt that as coming across as a bit of a "head stuck up my ****" remark as it was not intended.

Wheelshop, have you been here long enough to recall the previous cat threads?
Muslim threads are the new cat threads![Big Grin](images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
Also, there used to be a section called "Current World Events", a popular den for people with stern political views to shout on their soapbox out of the majority of user's earshot, excepting for the other users who shared the same inflammatory attiudes. The dissolvement of this section caused an overspill into NSR that has had a negative effect on the overall craic of the forum.
As for the spelling, I think people should "try" to use their English skills at their best. I am no perfectionist and my spelling is often overlooked as I don't look at my keyboard when typing and don't bother reading through what I post - It literally comes straight off my head and onto the page. So often the sequence of words, placment of letters, spelling, sentancing and use of tense gets mixed up. That in my opinion, id acceptable. It's an informal site, and posting style should follow also. Errors are allowable, we are all human afterall (excpt for the trolls
)
However, what I do not tolerate are those who do not make any attempt at general English at all. By that I mean SMS text talk, posting like you talk like ALi-G. POSTING COMPLETELY IN CAPITALS, and no use of punctuation at all.
In the end, making your post readable makes it easier for others to read and understand your viewpoint or question. It is not hard to do, since most of us learnt this at primary school. This isn't a solicitor letter, but likewise, it also isn't the playground banter of an 8 year old.

I agree. There's no need whatsoever for Ali-G impersonators. Effort should be made to put a coherent post together and failure to do so shows a lack of respect to people who read these posts and an overall attitude of laziness.

Hi,
I agree on stuff like "yo" "init" "wassup" and alike but how about stuff like "IMO" (still have to google for that one
) "pmsl", "lmao" "lol" "tbh" "br" etc ?
I must admit that I do use some of the last mentioned but in the years that I have done and been through forums these have always been used and never came across any mention of wrong doing on these... although sometimes there is the request from someone(normally new to forums) that asked what they ment.... i must admit that still today i find some that i never seen before hence i google for what they stand for.
I do every now and then have to write letters/emails to customers/friends and must say it would never cross my mind to abreviate anything although on emails to friends the odd "lol" creeps in. also I have 150 free texts every month allowance but probably only send 5 or 6 purely only to reply to the ones sent to me.
You opinions please.

Shark Man, I did not see the cats when posted but saw some when browsing the archives
As a dyslexic I am a little sensitive to spelling flames but agree a post has to be legible.
555 yes all impersonators should be beheaded(from another post).
Jerome that does not work with mine

What I suspect people dislike (I certainly do) is the use of ppl (people), l8 (late), m8 (mate) etc that are acceptable for SMS, but are not acceptable in forums.

agreed though, im not keen on blantant txt speak. in text messages yes as you have limited digits, but on here its easier to understand normal english to be honest. i do use thingd like "lol" and "pmsl", "sial" or "hth" for instance, but again as they are commonly used on interent forums.

Everyone was so helpful and friendly and it was a proper community.
I used to be a moderator on here but I got sick of the trolls ruining the atmosphere on here and I felt that I was spending far too much of my personal time chasing them up and moderating the abuse, racist posts and pointless trolling. I was originally going to quit as a moderator in January this year but I kept on hanging in there hoping it'd get better because I was doing a very high percentage of the moderation in general and non scooby related.
I feel guilty for the way that the board has gone in the last few months, if I'd stayed on the board wouldn't be as bad as it has become and that I am very sorry for. I hoped that when I left they would have replaced me with another moderator that could dedicate as much time to the job as I did.
I have made many good friends on Scoobynet though but none of us really post on here anymore
We all still meet up and post on another board.

Not sure how accurate it is though, as it lists me with an id of 673, maybe there were only that few users when I registered

On behalf of another former moderator:
If the Mods appointed were allowed to be trusted to use their own brains and have more authority to mod this board, instead of being programmed as clueless robots by shaun and simon to do it their way, sn would be a better place.
Its been proven that the rules mods have to abide by have gone a long way to bringing this board down to the level it is now. Just look how many mods have left, the majority have gone because they didn’t agree with shaun and simon. Sn has gone to the dogs, the few mods left don't mod because they cant be ar$ed to and quite frankly this situation should have been dealt with 2/3/4 yrs ago with far more stringent moderating, damage limitations are useless to try and address it now, as it’s gone to far to control the trolls.

I have been a member for a fair few years now.
I do think that SN has gone downhill a bit
But still think it is a real good board. We all have one thing in common a passion for scoobys.
I think it is up to us to stick up for most of the decent people on here.
There is a lot of stuff I know and a lot of stuff I dont know. So I allways answer the best I can. And some times I ask questions - and perhaps these seem blinding obvious to some people. But Scoobynet should all be about sharing knowledge. Its sad if people feel they can´t post - as we were all new to scooby ownership once and probably asked some of those basic questions ourselves. So if some newbie asks a question and gets trolled - reply and stick up for them. Thats what I recon
