Either way - looks like the trolls now have a new tool with which to wind up the SN Massive.
Leave a neg rep for someone claiming to be from someone else and see what happens - Well done Simon/Shaun - in trying to fix a problem you're gonna make it worse

The merits of the scheme good or bad are largely irrelevant because of the abuse it has received by a small group of very selfish members known as the 50+ club and corrupt moderators who have apparently made it their business to skew and manipulate the scores for the benefit of their elite by awarding them huge quantities of 'points' for no reason other than sycophantic
In this way the rep scheme is analogous to cocaine use. It just brings out the worst in people. We now have the rather unedifying spectacle of a small elite of rather stupid people who have become intoxicated by their newly awarded 'powers' swaggering about threatening to eliminate anyone who fails to show due deference toward them. The worst thing though is that the 'dealers' who supplied them with their fixes are the very people who are supposed to be responsible for even handed treatment of members and the maintainers of fair play within the community. This dereliction is IMO unforgivable, and I for one am both angered and disappointed to discover what is going on behind the tissue of deceit of even-handedness and fair play that the average user once believed to be the case
This discredited and patently unfair scheme should be abandoned with immediate effect, although of course it won't be. Or, the rep scores of ALL members should be reset and left to develop in the intended way, free from the gerrymandering and abuses which are all too rife currently. I predict this won't happen either, therefore I feel I am left with no choice but to quit this once enjoyable community that the introduction of a flawed, and freely abused system, has in one stroke and for ever more, ruined.
UB - signing off.

UB, you read too much into it. Why let something like this bother you to such an extent? It's only numbers in a database at the end of the day which I won't be losing any sleep over!

How does it effect anything? if you have such a bad rep do you get banned or something? Otherwise Id just ignore it really. its just a gimmick which people will stop using in a month or 2

If a user is put on the list and then decides to re-register, then they won't start off with a large number of reputation points or more importantly a high reputation power, so if they do reputate you, they will probably end up giving you a "grey" reputation mark, in other words, it won't effect your reputation.
If they troll then as they'll have a lower number of points/reputation power and yours would in theory be greater, you can negatively reputate them to a state where they would be considered for inclusion into the ignore list.
I think it would be a good idea if the inclusion into this list was automatic, as long as there is a right to appeal as some users will no doubt target others for petty reasons, rather than using the system for the purpose it was introduced for, which is to allow us to meta-moderate the trolls.

Sara, your always welcome to pass points this way. I just dont see what effect its having?
Markus, I see, why didnt we just use the bad post button that was always there, if someones constantly being reported the mods could put you on the ignore list... Would have cut out alot of the crap from half the people who do alot of bum sniffing on here

UB, I'm sure you'll be reading this, just to see what reaction your post gets...
I think you are overreacting to the system and seeing some conspiracy where none exists. The system is new and being trialled. If it doesn't work, it will be pulled. If it needs some tweeking, I'm sure that will be done also. Give it some time rather than storming off in a huff.
PS: Are you reading this with a tin foil hat on?

You're quite correct though, if a post/user is reported then yes they should also be considered for addition to the list. As said, if you were automatically added to this list then it would mean a little less work for the admins as we'd be meta-moderating things.

But yes, another illustration of how the system is open to abuse and is fundamentally flawed.
