Average starting rep power of two points per person, +ve:-ve rep ratio of 4:1 You'd need 20 users to rep you per day. 16 of which will be positive.
It's plausible, But getting 20reps in a day? Takes some going though, unless somebody started off with a higher rep power which got the ball rolling in the chain of increasing others rep power, which they may have inadvertantly known that doing so was causing a skew in the system scale.

It's a bit like when the Brits got to grips with trains, steam power and industrialisation as a whole. Because we got there first, the rest of the world was powerless to hold us back despite our relatively insignificant population. You see? No? Ok

I reiterate my suggestion that negs should not be anonymous, but positive ones have the option of being anonymous.
Personally, I think it is rather cowardly to neg someone anonymously. It's even worse to pretend to be someone else when negging.

The fact some users magically had 50+ points from effectively day one is still unexplained.
Quite why these users automatically were granted protection from any of the potential negative implications and given such power through the system does point at some sort of colusion going on behind the scenes.
There is no dening that those in favour thanks to this system now have huge influence and power on the board.
Bubba has made his position on this clear, but others effectively are unchecked and unchallengable.
For the troll and individuals who enjoy abusing others, they now have another mechanism at their disposal.
As a note, how do you think a newbie or someone who minds it, is going to react to offensive comments in their 'User CP'? They are going to decide not to get involved in the community or leave. Not good for SN.

If you get abusive comments, or feel one or more users maliciously giving you negative reputation then complain about it to the mods/admin.
Granted, the system is open to abuse and Jerome's point of neg reps showing who posted them would be a good idea.
I don't think anyone started off with 50+ points. What I think happened is that a bit of back-slapping occurred between users, and some of those users could well have been here for some time, and your reputation power is mainly based on your registration date but also your current reputation level. So a long standing user have positive reputation to another long standing user, who reciprocated, and thier reputation power, being high, gave the people they reputated more points than a user who had been registered later than they.
Repeat this with more users and you can quite quickly build up more points, and more power and you can end up with a lot of points pretty quickly.
From understanding of the system, I do not think that administrators can actually change your points, well, unless they give you positive reputation and they themselves have a a very high reputation power.

I've just done a test, and older user names seem to have more clout...whilst this name only gives 1 point, an old established name gives 2.
I will admit to rating myself, but its for experimental purposes

If the negs revealed who it was it would just create a continuos tit for tat situation were reps were handed for childish revenge rather than trolling. Either way audi lover will be screwd. I also think that there is no harm in bad reps provided you don't get loads of them and get banned. even a bad rep is better than being ignored completely. (waits for flood of bad reps)

This is all fine and dandy, but has it not already been demonstrated that the score is meaningless because users have been added to the ignore list with a full complement of points?
