Subaru should really go for it and get a 350/350 limited edition car there or even do a 400/400. They have too many limited editions that are pretty much the same. WR1 was the same spec as this just a different model. Just like Mitsu used Owen developments to get the FQ400. They should use someone like Litchfield, etc to get a 400/400 car that costs less than the T25

350 is about right - the FQ400 is no quicker than the FQ360 in reality... Its not all just on numbers.

Plus they would have to go front mount at higher figures IMO.

Hey numbers do count if the difference between them is big enough. Have a look on MLR forum where by most accounts the 360 is the same (feel) as the 340 where as those that have tried both thought the fq400 is noticeably different. Any way my point is not numbers as such but Subaru should make a 'really' special car. By partnering with a tuner and pushing out a new branded edition like the elite, ulitmate or whatever name. That upgrades the handling, brakes and the power. Like you have with a 'Mclaren' Mercedes or whatever. This would stop (or rather help) with not devaluing our cars.

I understand a slightly higher BHP was dropped in favour of the better suspension system which actually produces a faster car

Funny enough they use a small outfit called Prodrive based in Banbury if you haven't heard of them before

If I hadn't lost soo much on my current MY05 STI PPP I would have been tempted.
I think this car will hold it's value better than the rest of the range, afterall I got my car new for less than a second hand WR1, so a Car paying tribute will/should hold it's value better.
Agreed that the power could have been higher, afterall a STI with PPP is the same speed. Would be nice to drive it though, to see what the new suspension components do to the handling.

I'd probably be lucky to get £14k for mine as a trade in for a RB320. I've told myself I'm never buying another Subaru or Mitsubishi because of resale values. As much as I'd like the RB320 (or a T25 for that matter), I won't be changing my mind. If it had had 350+BHP then I might have gone for one.

As said above, the new Impreza (if it's called that) is out next year, and an STI version out within a year of that, so residuals of the current shape is going to fall faster than a Fat lass who's tripped up running for the last piece of cake.

Bear in Mind that these aren't going to be delivered before March 07 so don't expect loads of them in the showrooms just one or two models shared across the country.

I remember reading somewhere that a contribution from the sale of each car WOULD go to the RBF. Now if I could only remember where I've seen it... will have another look and post when I find it.

-- Edited --

Was at Prodrive on Friday. Subaru WILL be donating £25 from the sale of each car to the RBF in the form of membership of the RBF for the lucky RB320 owner. So, assuming all 320 get sold that will be £8k for the RBF plus whatever is raised at the Autosport Awards on Sunday. Should be looking at £40k at least in total.

Why chase peak figures?

350BHP is well fast enough for the road, and if it's delivered properly can be even 'faster'.

IMHO response is what you should be looking for.

Something JDM twin scroll owners will know about

Did Subaru ever do a car in memory of Possum Bourne? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_'Possum'_Bourne

Or the Mark Lovell and Roger Freeman edition?
Mark and Roger

Wonder why not, as all of the above were actually driving for Subaru when they died. Any thoughts?

Just got back from a Subaru drive day where this car was unveiled by Robert Reid and David Lapworth.Very nice car,but was more "touched" by what Robert Reid and David Lapworth are doing for the RB foundation.

Same here - having lost 8 or 9k in just over a year new cars generally make no sense, in Subaru's defence its not just them, the whole market seems in freefall, I know the WR1's seem to do better, but its a big risk - I think I'll wait 2 years and see how the prices look then - I don't think they will sell that quickley - £30K and a new model in 2008.......a smell a bargain next October......

As a mattr of interest how much were WR1's new, and how much was the equivalent Sti ??

zipdave sent me this vid to upload to our video page, so I thought I'd pop it on here too. http://www.scoobysmacs.co.uk/Videos/...ng%20rb320.avi
He was over in Banbury at a driving day, and was lucky to be part of the unveiling of the RB320
That's him asking his missus for the cheque book!

Indeed it was kind of related as I was tying to defend the lack of a big BHP figure.

Back on topic....

Huh I said if the numbers are big enough I didn't say what number, ok 600 bhp/600 torque @3000 rpm held till 8000 rpm (yes purely made up) loler Is that good enough!!! I think you miss my point I'm saying the rb320 is similar to the wr1 and not that special. All I'm saying is Subaru should do something really special b4 the new version x comes out to celebrate. Besides that's just one report from the MLR we could play forum tennis but whats the point we are talking about subaru special edition here..

Wasnt Richard the first englishman to become world rally champion back in 2001 ? I'd say thats one very big reason to make special edition cars, and he did it with Subaru !! I think the RB320 is a brilliant tribute - well done guys.
