in the same thread somebody has put forward Mick Jagger and McCartney. They've both done more drugs than Kate Moss ever has but people forget that now.

What planet do you live on?

Moss made a comeback just months after the cocaine scandal broke. Her current contracts (for the Autumn(Fall)/Winter 2006 season) include: Rimmel, Agent Provocateur, Virgin Mobile, Belstaff, Beymen, Dior, Louis Vuitton, Roberto Cavalli, Longchamp, Stella McCartney, Bulgari, Chanel, Nikon, David Yurman, Versace, Mia Shvili, Calvin Klein Jeans and Burberry. Moss has also agreed to make her first foray into the design world by designing a collection for Topshop.

In November of 2006, Kate Moss won the Model of the Year prize, the top accolade in British fashion, but the award has divided opinion and stirred fresh controversy over the celebrity.
Today Kate Moss makes more money than before the scandal. Her 2006 earnings add up to £30 million
Not saying she is a good role model, but the fact is she is one of the most recognisable and iconic faces in the world.

I reckon Naomi Campbell would be recognised by more people than Kate Moss.

Exclamation

A lot of names are banded about without any thought. There is a difference between an icon and role model. A role model is someone who's actions you can copy or someone you can try to be like. An icon is slightly different, its someone you may wish to be like, but never will. As i said before Beckham is a great role model because we can all use him as an example of what can be achieved through hard work and application. Kate Moss is not. Her only "talent" is being born with great genes. No-one in their right mind would say she's any sort of role model.

Also don't forget that the UK is a tiny market for luxury goods, Asia, Europe and the US far outweigh the market here. The fact that a model may have taken cocaine wasn't even a news item outside of the UK.

Lots of deserving names missing off that list. How about John Betjeman for a start.

Out of the list Mr Attenborough gets my vote - but agree with the shameless oversight leaving out of messers Feinnes and Moss.

Maybe Kate Moss was a typo and they meant Stirling......

Icon is an odd catgory though - some of those people may not be awe inspiring heros - but they are iconic.
