Using a mobile phone in the car is one of the worst distractions there are and I think that the penalties should indeed be increased to something really significant. The thought of someone also trying to dial while driving leaves me cold.

The law exempts radios and CB's. Any form of radio which operates on a back-to-back basis is not an offence. Taxi's, trucks, emergency vehicles etc are all exempt however the radio traffic should be kept concise, brief and relevant to the job in hand.

One handed isn't really an issue, I know plenty of people that drive one handed all the time anyway. It's more of a concentration issue IMO

Ban radios
Ban passengers (green lobby won't be happy)
Ban any kind of controls other than steering wheel, everything else is just switched on all the time
Ban eating or drinking
Ban people with a brain as one of these is no longer required for driving

Your earlier post had it right Olly, it is all down to loss of concentration on the priority at the time.
