Sold a Clio 16V for a Mondeo V6 S. It felt like huge limo after the Clio and wasn't much faster than it either, especially around corners.

Sold it a year later for a Mitsi FTO before I fell asleep at the wheel.

Then the FTO blew a head gasket and bent all the valves. That'll be £1200 sir.

Then I bought a brand new Alfa 147, OK car but lost a lot of money when I swapped it for a Scooby.

The M3 was probably just TOO refined which is why it never FELT quick...............everyone that went in it said it was quick, but i love my cars and they need to feel quick.
Also,i think the more you spend on a car to buy it,the more you expect from it,especially when it is something that is as (IMO over)hyped as the M3.

I bought it because in Febuary i bought a Mini Cooper S,and that was only doing 22mpg ,so i figured that is i was going to get that sort of economy,it may aswell be for something worthwhile,so i part exed it for the M3 in March.

After being so disappointed with the M3 i was desperate to get rid of it,so done a backward deal on a Seat Leon Cupra R 225(for the wife ),which as standard felt as quick as the M3(although it wasn't,just the Turbo torque i suppose),which i had remapped and added a couple of other things to,lowered it,and put some 19" Superleggara's on,and that was a brilliant car

At the same time i bought myself an Ariel Atom for a bit of fun................but the fun only lasted 3 weeks until i got fed up with that .

I was then absolutely sick of cars, loosing money on cars, and being disappointed with cars,so bought myself a Seat Arosa 1.4 Sport(which i done the "euro" thing to),slammed on coilovers, deep dish wheels etc. Then, the day that was finished my valeter said he wanted that,so i sold it to him.

I also have this thing about cars that i cannot bear to have anything "decent" during the winter, and having to keep it clean,so usually i buy something cheap(last year it was a diesel Laguna)that i don't have to worry about too much. This is when i sold the Leon, however,i have really struggled to get speed out of my system this year,so i recently bought myself an Classic Impreza Turbo(performance and grip for the winter),which i am now in the process of modding .

The cunning plan for the missus though is that she said if i bought her a people carrier i could have whatever i want next year(not that it bothers her really anyway),so she now has a Berlingo Multispace, and next year,i currently have my eye on a................................................. ............................

Flippin eck, what do you lot do to be able to lose so much money on cars, I earn a decent whack but cant afford to bin loads of it on cars, the missus moans at me when I do, ironic as she has lost much more than me on cars over the last ten years !

Perhaps its the fun of doing the research and the buying experience that you get off on, and when you get it its just a car.

Just buy the autotrader and a Basic Focus, do all the research but stop short of actually buying it, try and get a long test drive for the novelty to wear off.

I find with most cars that they are a bit of a dissapointment after the initial thrill, but I find I only really appreciate them after doing a good few months in it and getting to know it properly.

Had a Pug 306 Rallye and traded it in for a Alfa 156 T-Spark, god what was I thinking just fell in love with the Italian looks inside and out. What an absolute piece of junk the Alfa was had so many problems with it and lost £7000 a year later trading it in . Still regret selling the Rallye .

I've had 3 cars this year, an E46 BMW 330d, 05 Impreza Sti PPP and a mid nineties vintage Rover 214  Just waiting on my S3 to be delivered .

My worst purchase was getting rid of my 6 month old 03 Sti PPP for an Evo 8. Lost a shed load on the Impreza and kept the Evo for only 10 months.

As Evos depreciate faster than an Impreza that was another money pit

selling my totally reliable corolla GT ae82 (FWD) back in 1992 and buying a 1989 Renault 5 GT Turbo - within 2 months it had to have: Several Clutch/Accelerator Cables, overheated = New heads / rebuild, then met a big pothole resulting in a new subframe/wishbone/suspension parts - Loved it to bits sold it bought a mint 88E Pug 205 1.9 GTi - crasehd within a week (same day i got it insured) as a BLOODY drunk driver pulled out of a give way without seeing me coming straight at him...!!!

Don't mention the bloody Autotrader, that's part of my problem..................i buy them every week "just for a look",and then see all these cars i "must have",then of course the rest of the problem is Ebay whilst "just browsing to see what's about",and now to cap it all i have recently found Pistonheads!!!

The other thing i find is that every month i put money back for my hobby, and every month all these cars are depreciating,so when my budget meets a cars depreciation i have to buy it

Think my current car is my "worst next car choice" - a VW Bora 1.9TDi - got it after part-exing my MY03 STi

Knew I'd done the wrong thing on driving it home - the car nearly slid off the road on one the corners I used to be able to swing around in the STi...

On the lookout for a nice little Forester XT now - wife won't let me have another Impreza, but she thinks the Forester is a sensible family car Now about the PPP on the Forester...

Yup - Sounds familiar!

At the time, I used to think XR31 and Orion Ghia owners were just poor drivers as they had the same 100-ish BHP. Then I bought one and realised how poor they were to drive

No offence mate, but it angers me at least once a day i see a post, were someones wife says what kind of car, someone can have and what they can't have.

Grow some *****, and tell her its upto you what type of car you want, dont let her dictate to you what kind of car your allowed to have, its your money spend it on the car you want, she only should have a say if she is giving you money to buy it and if that was the case, save some more of your own up, and tell her its your choice.

Id personally never let a woman tell me what i can and can't buy.

My worst desicion was to sell my first Pulsar GTiR, I had had it for two years and done a load of stuff to it and fancied a change to two wheels (hadnt done bike test, but just wanted to get a bike).

Sold the pulsar, went to buy a cheapish non sporting car and ended up spending more than i was going to on a 306 2.0 XSi 8v. It was the wrong car at the wrong time, got peed off with it quickly and sold it at a loss just to get rid of it.

Having still not done my bike test or buying a bike I went and bought another Pulsar cos I was missing what I had been used to, and after a couple of months realised why I had sold my previous one and sold this one.

2 years after that I finally got round to doing the whole bike thing and realised just how much cash I wasted

my first bike was a Kawasaki ZX6R (97 model) and had around 90-95 horses and cost me £2400. After that went I got a newer model ZX6R (03 model) and that has around 110-115 bhp, and that cost me £4000. Both bikes were bought 2nd hand, and are both 600cc engined.

Going to a 1000cc bike will obviously be more powerfull(think around 160bhp) and a little more expensive.

But the good thing about the bike performance is the acceleration, as said above, current bike is around 110-115 bhp and weighs only 160kg + me.

The only 'performance' enhancing mod I have done is to change the final drive ratio by changing the front sprocket to a smaller one, therefore the bike accelerates quicker, but top end suffers.

Couldnt tell you how long it takes to get to 60, as its over in a flash and by the time ive looked down at the speedo, 60 is long gone

Might I suggest that if you ever get married it is to someone with EXACTLY the same views on cars as you. If you don't then the money you will lose in the divorce courts will make the money people lose on cars look like chum change. Even the most submissive lady will get the hump with a "it's my money so **** off" attitude. Further advice on a successful marriage is available on request at reasonable cost

Worst next car mistake I made was going from my modified MY00 Scooby Turbo 2000 to a Audi TT(225BHP). The Audi TT was a well built car and had the luxurys that the scooby didnt have(leather and heated seats, nice looking interior etc), but it just didnt do it for me, it didnt feel quick as the power delivery was smooth, and it just felt to heavy to throw round corners. Had the TT a few weeks and decided to get another scooby!

I made almost exactly the same mistake (MY01 WRX to Bora 130 TDi) and I'm still stuck with it. It's kind of hard to walk away from 50 mpg...
