We really don't know what to do. The vet said it is a huge responsibility, we already have the lab and three children, she said we need to put the children first, no matter how sorry we feel for him, and that we have been kind, but if they took him they would call the dog warden, or they would end up with their house full of strays like him

Really don't know what the vet bills are likely to be, all four paws are inflamed and sore, probably from roaming, cold and wet weather etc, so he will need a course of antibiotics, rear paw needs dressing and treating, ear infection needs threating and the bad skin behind his ear needs treating too.

He has been whining now, solid for about an hour, I am surprised the neighbours haven't been round to complain yet

I have asked my Mum if either of my aunties may be interested in him, just as an option If he does need re-homing, I would prefer him to go where I know he will be looked after well

LOL, yes, we have a few spare collars we ut it on him so we're able to put him on a lead etc and it makes it easier to check him over and to get him off our lab

He seems a great dog, really soft

Once the collar's on it'll be his own bed next, and all 4 paws under your table!

Where do you live?

Most probably making the whining noise due to his injuries and infection, he will more than liley stop whining once these begin to heal.

You need to remember guys and girls that he may have an owner out there who is desperate to find him. It may be that he escaped, wandered out of his area and therefore out of reach of being easily found. That's why he lost so much weight........
I hope that's not the case. Therefore he will probably get a good home from you or family as I would hate to think there are nice owners out there not sleeping at night worrying about him.....

That's why we had him checked over for a microchip, but he doesn't have one The vet said she would like to think that that is the case, but from years of experience, it is very likely he has been dumped because it's coming up to christmas and whoever had him probably wants to replae him with a puppy

It woyuld be lovely if he did have an owner who is missing him, the vets will keep an eye out for anyone who asks about a lost staff, so will the rescue shelters, they took our details. He's happy now having a chew on a rawhide bone

He is settling, ears pricked up instead of flat against his head and wagging his tail a lot more etc

^^ He was licking Scooby's tongue while he was panting LOL

THe role seems to have reversed somewhat this morning, it appears that Scooby is trying to make the staff *his* b!tch now ! When I fed them both, I fed Scooby, while holding the other bowl and making the staff sit while Scooby ate most of his, then I let the staff have his, hopefully to try and teach him who's boss, kinda thing

He whined a lot last night, probably the infection in his ears, they were hot and burning, could also explain why he shakes so much too. He settled down before we all went to bed though, so he didn't keep us up whining I guess it will take him a while to get used to newe surroundings and not have to worry about being attacked etc while he tries to sleep and not waiting to be thrown back out on the street, plus with him not being too well ATM, hopefully when the infection clears up he'll perk up a lot more

He looks like a lovely little fella I've got a female Staffy called Scooby who is a rescue dog and had another one called Grizzly who was also a rescue dog (he died a few years ago at the ripe old age of 16). Staffies in the right hands are very affectionate, people loving dogs and are usually great with kids

Grizzly was very definitely a 'whiner', although a very happy dog he used to whine and squeak a lot (we called it Staffy Speak ) and generally make a lot of noise although he hardly barked at all, whereas Scooby doesn't do much whining and squeaking but barks.

There's a good website and forum which has a lot of advice for rehoming and lost & found dogs here: Dogpages forums -> Lost and Found Dogs...

Well done for taking this little lost boy in and getting him treated, if his original owners do eventually turn up they'll hopefully be really grateful to you both

It was sort of funny last night, we went to watch a film on the projector (7 foot screen) Kill Bill it was

Anyway when it started both dogs went absolutly mental barking as loud as they possibly could at the screen as the people on there were virtually life size

Scooby kept on running round to the front door as I think he genuinely thought two people where looking in through the window lol

Had to put them back out into the conservatory though, as they wouldnt settle with the projector on

Last time this happened, a dog barked on the TV and Scooby threw himself at the screen barking his head off, and knocked the TV into the wall

Hopefully his whining will settle down (he did it for four or five hours last night none stop, whether he was in the house or in the conservatory

He seems very wary of lying down, even sitting down sometimes, he wont quite put his bum on the floor, so he is ready to move off

What a heart warming thread, well done to you guys

I have had my brick red staffy for 11 years and have had him since 6 weeks old, he is the biggest whinge bag there is, always whining and making silly noises, thats even if he is sat near me in the kitchen, but what fantastic dogs with bags of character.

Even my dog does not like lying down or even puttin his bum on a cold floor, the lil git

Raz.

Thanks SC

A woman in the vets last night with her weimeraner said she used to have staffies, and they make a lot of noise all the time, so maybe some of it isn;t whining, I just worry in case the neighbours start to moan. He was lay in Scooby's basket whining a short while ago LOL.

I'm not surprised they dont like lying down on cold floors, their fur is very short, I bet they feel the cold

The more he perks up, the more character he seems to have

Seems like a few of you have Staffies, I dont know much about them, they get some bad press are they trustworthy? Seems like some owners may be dont treat them right. I suppose there are unscrupulous breeders in all breeds.

I think with any dog, if they're not treated right, they will possibly bite or snap out of fear, others are taught to behave in that manner by the scum that own them, IMO there are good and bad in all breeds. I was wary when I first saw "Yoda ears", but gave him a chance, and I am glad I did because he is lovely.

Rotties have had a bad press too, yet the ones I have known have been lovely dogs, with families too. I'm sure that most people who own so called "dangerous dogs" will report what wonderful, soft and loving dogs they are, the bad ones, IMO are a minority

A lot of a dogs behaviour is down to the owner, maybe breeders should be more choosy about who they sell them to

Well you should put the thing down as anyform of aggressive behaviour deserves the syringe.
