i wonderd why some of you blokes were saying you get 250 -280 miles out of a tank full,if the newer models have a 60 litre tank this would explain it .mines an old timer (94) and ive never got more than 47 litres in it,and its been of the gauge for 20 miles at that!

I've always wondered this.

I think when the fuel light comes on there is 10+ litres still in the tank.

Also, when you fill up the nozzle goes so far in that restricts the full capacity. Having a JDM i can look right down into the tank and you can get a few more litres in by pulling the nozzle a bit further out.

I have actually had fuel swilling in the cap!! It has been that full .... maybe I squeezed 46 litres in then?

If I have a 60 Litre tank then I must have 3 Gallons left in the tank when it shows absolutely empty then? Which is about 70miles after the light has come on!? Or thereabouts?

You said you drive a bit more and the needle nearly goes off the scale.

Thats the problem...the gauges are crap. I drive until the needle is on the middle bar of the E and still only get 56/57 in it (my03).

FWIW the fuel warning light on my MY99 UK serems to be spot on - goes on when there's supposedly 9 litres left and if I then fill up soon after I get 51 or so litres in. When the light comes on is also dependent on how you're driving the car, harsh acceleration, braking or cornering makes it come on that litle bit earlier presumably due to inconsistent levels in the tank.

The needle goes well off the scale before you're out of petrol on a newage (I'm guessing the 00s are similar). I've taken mine through the E and still only got 57Litres in...

Mind you - something must be wrong with your foot if you keep getting 37mpg

I know you have been here before but............

How the hell do you get 38/40mpg?

I drove below 4000rpm with no hard acceleration for a whole tank not so long ago and only managed 34mpg!

Default 30 mpg??? - Nirvana!

I must be doing something wrong, I'm lucky if I get 23 mpg on my 52 plate WRX wagon, but I do believe the tank is 60 litres, when the light comes on it takes about 50 litres.

I did get 25 mpg the other day, after crawling through the Dartford tunnel and getting stuck in very slow traffic past Cambridge on the A14. First time ever though... Drops to 19 mpg in the summer with short runs and the aircon on.
