Dropped the car off today and picked up a diesel 2 ltr Vectra, what a load of bollocks!!

Gutted really, me and the missis managed to get a baby sitter (surprising with 4 kids) and went out. Not the same without my scooby

Anyway, chins loaned me a 99 ECU (same connectors) and dealers have a RB5 ECU to try Lets hope this works otherwise, I'll have to get rid of her Really pissed off, cause she handles like a dream, even the brakes impressed me yesterday at Bedford.

Question

What brakes have you got Phil? Bedford kills std kit as there are 3 or 4 heavy stops on each lap. Have you got upgraded suspension as well?

Floyd,

I've got standard brakes and suspension, and was very surprised that my brakes held out for eight laps in one go, and I wasn't hanging around. Had a couple of wobbles on the steering wheel on braking from the long straight. Got upto 125 MPH Didn't get any brake fade, but did notice the ABS coming on from time to time on the back wheels.

I have got SO2 that are now past it, and had the pro-drive cambers done. Why do you ask ?

Question

Phil,

I asked because you said "cause she handles like a dream, even the brakes impressed me yesterday at Bedford". I just wondered what you had done to the car.

Yes, and it has seriously surprised me!!

Right then, good news or bad news ?

Bad news is my disks and pads are ****ed after the playing at Bedford although I was guilty of making them work seriously hard, and the car has done 26 k. That's the reason why I haven't been able to bring the car home tonight, get her in the morning

Good news is, well here goes.........

I seriously think that the MY99 ECU has fixed my problems. I drove her today for about 10 minutes, and didn't really get chance to test it out as the roads were a little busy. I'm convinced the car is running much smoother and pulling stronger, without the "turbo lag". The 2700 to 3200 flatness has gone IMHO, proof of the pudding will be on the rollers, at PE.

I will get the car back tomorrow, and report the findings. The dealers want to try a few more things, I think they may think they are onto something here. I'm sure they might be

I have said the car is overboosting in fourth and fifth, so I think they are going to fit a smaller restrictor.

Chins your a shining star

Cheers Phill C

PS I might know someone that has a few MY99 ECUs going spare

Can recommend braided lines and DOT 5.1 along with some good aftermarket discs/pads Phil unless you want a big brake upgrade. I am pretty heavy on my brakes and I think they work a treat on the road.

Glad to here that it is less hesitant. Now, did I hear boost controller ?

The only reason I am heavy is I gun it like a nutter on straights and bring it right back for the corners - are my wheels supposed to be anthracite? The only time I like a twitch is on the exit of a corner. Trouble is with boost at 17PSI in SECOND I can have all four wheels spinning in the wet on the local "quality" tarmac. Slightly alarming for an AWD car, and that little TD04 sure spools up quick in this cold weather. Great fun though

should GP's really admit to driving like this on our roads

T-uk,

Ran straight away mate, just needed the keys and ECU paired up

John,

Had to draft a letter to my MD, ref mods, but I'm sure it has done the trick Looking forward to driving your car. Dot 5.1 and braided hoses are the sort of mod I did to my RS2000 (MK2) years ago, but are diffently next Was so surprised at Bedford last week, held up great!!!

Cheers Phill C

PS managed to get ATS to supply four new SO2s for £85 per corner, don't understand how they got so worn Picking them up tomorrow.

Fantastic price for SO2s! Why do you Southerners get all the bargains? Don't forget they are new or you will be drifting a lot with your newfound power

Do you have this fuel controller setup planned soon?

With the flexibility you'll have with it a Dawes controller could be ideal if you can get away with it mod-wise re your fleet. The TMS1 MRT rally entry level EBC is very cheap also - under £200 IIRC...

John,

I have the MAF converter ready to go, just need to get to PE to get it sorted out.

Hmmm rally entry level will make my fleet manager run a mile, he looks after 4k plus cars, and has enough of me and my dramas We did have two Imprezas on the fleet, now sadly just mine

The SO2s being off when I get them, great and I hope it rain and rains

Yeah apparently ACL tell the tyre suppliers the price and that's it, no arguing that's what we pay!! It's due to the amount of cars they fleet manage. Great for me though.

Get four new SO2s no drama two are very worn.

"Boost control electronic kit TMS1
MRT performance manufactured electronic variable boost control system for any turbo car. Common installation by MRTP into popular Impreza Models (incl the new 01 onwards) has provided a wealth of experience that you can benefit from. Features include: New high quality boost control solenoid, Separate MAP sensor that will read up to 30 psi (2 bar) with built in safety cut out at 20 psi, "closed Loop" boost monitoring. Kit comes complete with very detailed fitting instructions, as well as wire harness, hose, boost **** and control module. Kit allows the fitter to set the high and low boost point on the ECU module that is then controlled via a simple electrical ****. Separate sensitivity allows the unit to be "tuned" to your car so its neither sluggish on response or over boosts on rapid acceleration. Can be easily removed for servicing or fault diagnosis as the boost control solenoid runs independent of the factory OE ECU and boost system. Main feature to note is this will provide EARLIER boost with less lag, and the ability for you to turn down the boost (or up) if you have someone else driving your car! MRTP recommends you consult us for best reliability for boost settings, however with this kit, even on standard maximum factory boost your car will have less lag and more power.
Code: MUSSE017A
Price: $490.00 (Australian Dollars) "

mmmmm.... you know you want to.....

F
PS Do I get commision for the idea and the fix, from you or the dealer?

Cool

Floyd,

I also got mine FOC, yes the power of scoobynet You need to get the dealers to put it in and program the keys / ECU to work with each other. Only takes 2 minutes...Don't forget the spare keys

Even with the decat downpipe removed, it still feels fast and pulls strong. The fuel Economy has increased, back to normal....

I know it's early days, but I think we may have cracked it chaps.....Thanks for all your help, couldn't have done it without you lot!

Having to drive steady at the moment, new SO2s yesterday

Cheers Phill C
