Why didn't we adopt a sensible immigration policy like Australia?

Why did we have this preference for immigrants from polar opposite cultures exactly?

I see so many have this belief that there are no issues with mass immigration into Britian, as I pressume they are unaffected - move to other areas of the UK and you will soon change your tune. Ignorance is bliss as they say - but for how long?

I go on about being anti-immigration not meaing your have issues with an entire race because so many seem to think the two are somehow connected...

I have friends who are black and asian through work and socially - these arn't just 'token' friends either. We discuss the state of society in this country etc and we often have similar views on pretty much everything - lack of respect, declining standards, government policy, taxation, stupid projects and schemes etc etc

What some will find interesting though (not all as others will expect it) is that some of these friends also hold the view that immigration is out of control and that there are big problems. Some black friends (christian values) generally have a problem with asians and vice-versa and are pretty open about it! Almost all are in agreement though that we ought to have more vetting and better government planning.

I personal do object to the hords of uneducated backward immigrants flooding into this country, straining the infrastructure, claiming benefits, increasing crime, dragging areas down etc... I do not object to educated professionals being allowed to settle such that they can add value to the economy and provide the UK with valuable services that are in short supply. Sensible immigration policy (Australia etc) would have ensured the later.

Contribute and add value to the country first and then benefit from what it can offer (to you and your children) rather than the other way around!

Sara - I do fight for things I belive in, but common sense seems to count for little in this country - government propaganda, brainwashing and the 'trendy' do-gooder mentality has seen to that.

Most people living in the bulk of Britian with their heads screwed on right can see things are in decline, but I think it will have to get much worse before it gets better... do I want to stick around and wait until it's sensible to fight (paying my high taxation to fund this government, living in the aftermath of it's projects and gone wrong experiments) or shall I emigrate when I finally have had enough like all the others?

I am sure immigration could be better planned and controlled. However your rather thin grasp of macroeconomics and migration suggests some deeper analysis might be useful up there on your soapbox.

The majority of economies in Western Europe - indeed the world - have massively benefited from the migration of low paid, unskilled workers. This trend started in the Industrial revolution and continues today. In the UK, Northern Europe and California through cross-border migration and in India and China in country to city migration.

The economic effect of these is far more positive in general terms than the cost of healthcare and benefits payments.

Yes the UK could be doing a far better job of it - however the migration of poor country folk in China will have a depressing effect on unskilled wages here (it has been for years anyway - it will simply accelerate) and so we need to find some poor sod who will work for less money than is available now. Oh, I know, economic migrants.

Australia gets away with it as it has a lot of natural resources per capita and can afford to buy it's way out of this little challenge.

I understand we need cheap labour but don't we have an ample supply from within the EU - Poland, Slovakia etc etc and what about all the people already here sitting around on benefits etc?

Most economic migration is drifting cross border from countries atleast in the same region - not dumping people in from half way around the world.

Immigrants arriving here from effectively British colonies or areas under heavy British influence in the past were already accustom to British institutions, values etc and respected them... many recent newcomers hardly appear to be embracing our way of life. The government seems to be half heartedly tackling this issue as an after thought - too little, too late.

Also should economic considerations always be number one priority for a country? As said before, globalisation is one thing but realistic, sensible policy is another.

Brilliant.

All the so called loyalists repeatedly come back to the 'it's so crap here I will leave and pollute some other country with my reactionary view of the world'.

About as loyal as a labrador puppy to any old stranger with a biscuit!
