Makes me laugh; there's at least two posts here putting a downer on immigrants to the UK (amongst others things, admittedly) and yet this thread is about moving to another country! WTF?

I personally have nothing against immigrants of any nationality coming to the UK, if they've come to work.

In fact I welcome with open arms the East European builders, plumbers & carpenters, because it will hopefully bring the homegrown cowboys back into the real world of sensible prices & the full working day

A strong argumant against immigration. In fact his nationality should be stripped and the English team disqualified.

What do you mean, this thread? This same hypocracy has been going on in NSR for years.

I'm beginning to hate the place that I have been a proud citizen of, and tried my best to be a productive part of. I'm fed up of paying almost half my income to sponsor this govt. After paying that 50% I then have to shell out £1000s for private health and schools. Hospitals are closing, schools are rubbish, we are fighting stupid wars around the world and the country is over run by scumbags (of all colours)
If it wasn't for the fact that I'm very close to my family (who are here) I'd be gone in a shot. Australia is crying out for my people in my profession, and many are leaving because of what this govt has done to the NHS.

Its all very depressing....

Do not believe that the health care is better in other countries, I would rate NZ and Aus as pretty similar to the UK in terms of quality, the UK suffers from a larger and older system but overall it's not that bad.

You have to pay to see GPs for example in Australia/NZ and there are fewer hospitals. Dental care or opticial exams are not free either.

In fact I think that is a massive problem here, the fact that GPs are free, that's why they are so overused because people visit them too much.

i get fed up of all these people telling you what good decision they have made moving abroad. i work in the cargo industry so have first hand knowledge of whos going where.

they all tell you how fabulous dxb or jeddah or canada or wherever is but they all come back in time, either they get too old and want to come home or miss friends or they realise all they do is sit and get pissed, or get a small job to avoid getting pissed all day, it works for some people obviously but a lot are running from a family fued or a failed business or a cheating or deceased partner.

after a while they get bored of their bit of england they created in spain or usa or oz and want to come home because its too hot, french, quiet , backward, or they simply get two old, or find out they are missing the kids even though theyve had enough of them at the time thry went

mine are very young but when im old i would still want to see them every few days, (my wife sees hers nearly every day, so does my sister)
personally for me, i think the thing to do would be to have friends who have holiday homes abroad like we have now, and go and use their villas, and turn the light off and walk away from it , no problems,

take it from me and i was on the phone to a business in tenerife tonight its not all its cracked upto be.

They all come back in time? Statistics seem to prove you wrong. Please provide your evidence that 'they all come back'.

Net migrant flows, British 1993–2004 (thousands):

Year 1993 1994 1995 1996 1997 1998
British –62.7 –16.8 –51.6 –62.1 –59.8 –22.7

Year 1999 2000 2001 2002 2003 2004
British –22.8 –57.0 –53.0 –91.1 –85.2 –119.6

This shows a mass exodus of British moving, and staying abroad. No doubt some come back, but the majority stay gone. Look at the massive jump in people leaving over the past 3 years.

well i speak to all the unhappy ones and make a good living sending them the things they really miss from blighty

in my experience alot of them have been done for tax, or lost someone or business failed

i wouldnt object to a long vacations there but most seem to fall in the trap of getting piseed after 2 olock every day.or
they get a job to keep themselves busy . so the point of moving abraod to have an easier lifestyle was what then ? to work in a shop or a bar where the cost of living is soo much cheaper than here .. and so are the wages.

Well, that's not the case for the several people I know. There are a multiplicity of reasons why people emigrate, not simply three specific reasons.

I would imagine it's perfectly reasonable for people wanting goods they have been familiar with. Does it not say something to you that even though they want to use British goods they don't need them so badly they move back for them? If they did surely you would have no customers to ship these goods to if that were the case

I sort of agree, people who have failed in the UK, blame it on their lack of success and try somewhere else. They blame the UK when it was really their own fault.

The other group of people are the more ambitious types that want a better life for themselves or family. They think the grass is greener, but it's all relevant to your personal opinion.

I like the UK, the government are arseholes and are trying to destroy it, but it's not as bad as most people make out. The reason I'll move back to Aus/NZ is because I would like my children to have the same childhood that I had - with a lot more emphasis on sport/outdoors etc.

95% of life's pretty much the same wherever you live - work/eat/shop/holiday etc and it's the little things that make a difference. Australia might be much better weather and lifestyle but then you lose the ability to be anywhere in Europe for the weekend or NY. Your spending power will go down and your entertainment and shopping options will probably be curtailed.

It is but I cannot think of one thing I'd miss from the UK in terms or food/drinks/general supplies. Surprised there is such a market really. Unless you are in the US where it could be a bit dire, but Aus and NZ have pretty much have the same stuff or at least better equivalents.

An antipodean saying that the English should be disqualified in the middle of the Ashes not looking like a joke? Anyway looks like they've managed to get rid of themselves in the worst performance in Ashes history

Vegemite : Imitation made by American company
Antipodean Marmite : not the real deal

Things that I really would miss if I couldn't get them locally. Luckily the Dutch seem to appreciate them too!
  • British Marmite : the genuine article
  • English mustard
  • Branson pickle
  • Pataks Indian pickles

Evaluation conducted yearly on 39 quality of life criteria.
The top ten places to live in the world 2005 in decending order
Most of these places usually feature - just the order changes from year to year.

geneva
Zurich
Vancouver
Vienna
Frankfurt
Munich
Dusseldorf
Auckland
Bern
Copenhagen
Sydney

I live in one of these places. Its not perfect and has downsides but...The streets are clean and very safe, The public transport is excellent, You can afford to live - most items are realisticaly priced etc etc.

Join one of us 5.5million and select destination above

However - Regular trips back to England are a must. See friends and family, have a few pints and a sunday lunch - do and see a few of the things you miss. Then back on the plane away from the **** hole and back to civilisation for a few more months.

The british are being so badly coned when I comes to having a quality of life.

There are much better cities in the Netherlands. Den Haag, Den Bosch, Utrecht and Arnhem are just four of them. Or maybe I'm just old.
I live in amsterdam, well just outside. It's one of the best cities there is. Just have to walk 5 mins in any direction from the red light district and you won't have stag do's spewing on your feet while you get mugged as someone fries to flog you various different Class A's

The only thing is, if you think the UK is bad for speed cameras this place is 10x worse.

I'd like to move out to the BVI's but I think i'd loose touch with home then. I'm no longer proud to be british, but the motorsport is good and it's nice to catch up with friends and family now and again

Not sure what list that is but it seems to be missing Melbourne which regularly comes in the top 3 on virtually every quality of life survey and best city list.

Agreed , but usually they are so arrogant they never realise it. Same with the food in the UK, they think it's good when in many other places it would be sent back.
