I dont think anyone sets out to kill animals in motorsport, but they DO in fox hunting.

Regardless of intent, the end result is the same - dead animal(s)

There is unarguably no "need" for a full hunt to catch a fox, but foxhunting does provide a lot of vital income for many different businesses in the country, something i've only recenly come to realise.

Personally, i'd rather ban the fekkers who go on shoots - blasting innocent birds out of the skies and trees for "sport". At the end of the day all of this comes down to two things - money and the greed for it, and sod the animals.

Animal Farm? when did beastiality come into this???

"I my country, we shoot the fox with the bow and the arrow.....I like to shoot the pigeons.....but you need a lot of them to make the coat...."

In my best Borat voice......

Pigeons are flying rats.......I shoot game but not as much as I used to...have you ever tried to pluck a pigeon? and yes, I said PLUCK......
There's no money in it or greed....Land owners are happy to rid themselves of these vermin....

I know you probably mean that as sarcasm but I'll answer anyway, stuff like is just accidents, not as if they're intentionally hitting cows with £300k worth of rally car.

And those b*stard fisherman, barbarically pulling fish out of the water with barbed hooks through their lips, half suffocating them, and then releasing them. If you ate them at least it would have some point, but to torture and release them, just to have a picture of you holding them, truly barbaric.

Your time will come fishermen......

The hypocrisy in this thread beggars belief. Why people wont admit that their intense dislike of fox hunting stems principally from misplaced class-hatred and has f*ck-all to do with foxes, I realy dont know.

Lets sort out the royal family too eh?. After all: why should they be able to live like they do? The state owns those houses, I should be able to live there.....

Couldn't agree more about the Royal family while we're having a clearout

Pigeon shooting i agree is vermin control. Pheasant shooting isn't - they just look prettier and move slower. Farmer + land + pheasants = get the City ***** in over the weekend and make a few bob. Brilliant.

Pheasant's taste nicer though....and you get more of a meal after Plucking one.....

Also there was a statistic a while back from the BASC that said just as many were killed by speeding motorists then by **** shots....
True, there is the toff 'ora' where by banks are taking customers to organised game shoots but the clay pigeon scene is a lot bigger than it was and the game shoots are fazing out....

I love the way those who would defend hunting and killing an animal - any animal - for a laugh always use the same arguments. "Foxes are savage too" "It's nothing to do with class" "It's a revenue stream for the countryside"

Yes, foxes are savage. That's because they're wild animals. We're supposed to be better than that - the top of the evolutionary chain, civilised intelligent mankind. Why do we need to visit savagery on a creature siimply doing what nature designed it to do? After all, most of the people trotting that line out would be horrified if somone seriously suggested feeding a cat to a pack of dogs...

You're right, it isn't a class thing. There are plenty of reasons to believe that people who hunt, injure and kill for fun have no class at all. But while hunting used to be the preserve of the well to do, it no longer is. No, that's not true. You still need money, but you don't need to be upper class. Hunt spokesmen tend to be upper class still because they come across better on TV. Or they think they do...

Revenue for the countryside? Lots of other things can also provide healthy revenue streams. But the people who want to hunt have their blinkers on and won't consider anything else.

I've offered to run drag hunts for the three around my Mum's area (we don't have many hunts in Croydon) free of charge, because I like to see the spectacle of the hunt and respect that there are some people who do rely on it for a living. I never even got a reply...

Oh, and as I've got a decent education, earn a reasonable salaryand speak properly then I'm probably a toff in some of your eyes. I also lived in the countryside from childhood until a few years ago, I ride horses and I detest any form of killing for fun.

SB

You can try to argue that hunting isn't the best way of keeping the numbers down, that they have survived without having this "sport" but i'm sure the numbers have increased so **** em....if they were that clever then they'd be the ones holding the guns....yes, a chain of evolution.....I don't support dogs ripping the things to bits but I wouldn't think twice about sinking a 7 1/2 into one.....

Ever had fox's in the back garden attacking your dogs?
Ever had them destroy farmland, scratch that, how about them getting in your back garden, pulling rubbish all over the place?
Hang on, we should let them do it? build a fox sanctuary? put our bins up higher?

Pigeons are simliar but worse...in fact some councils are employing 'shots' to help rid us of them....

Next on the list are chavs....

Totally agree with this.

Anyway, fox hunting does little to reduce the fox population. You kill one, another moves into the teritory. Is bloodlust not population control.

It's barbaric and should be banned - oh it is, good.

The legislation was to restrict fox hunting in order to appease the antis and also to shut the arch inverted snob 2 Jags(*****) up.

I also support the Countryside Alliance, before we lose the country!

Les has hit the nail on the head and I have to give Bliar credit for pulling off such a spectacular piece of legislation which on the face of it banned hunting, thus satisfying the ill informed townies whilst being so unworkable that it allows hunting to continue.

It almost makes you believe in conspiracy theories.

The fox hunting bill took up over 700 hours of parliamentary debate, significantly more than the decision to invade Iraq. I'm glad to see that the government has maintained their perspective

Sadly the same is true of most of the laws NL have introduced, just look at the driving whilst using a mobile law, not made a jot of difference.
