It will get serviced every 5,000 miles at PS, so the costs can be slightly comparable to running an Evo.
As I've said previously though, driving the Evo flat out really didn't fill me with confidence. The AYC made the rear end feel very twitchy IMO and I just couldn't drive it with any conviction. Felt like I was riding a Kangaroo at one point
But as has been said, each to their own.

well I was looking for evo 7/8 before I bought my V8 Sti and a number of things made me buy the Subaru.. as people have said above the subaru is fast car that can also be used every day the servicing is not as often and where I live in Ireland there is no where proper to service an Evo as it should be done while there is a subaru garage within 30 miles.. I've driven both cars.. all the evos I drove were japs and yes they where quicker that my Irish/UK spec sti.. but we don't have petrol higher than 95 octane here so a jap needs to be mapped straight away thus losing bhp straight away...if money was no object I'd buy the evo Fq 400 or the T25 or the RB320.. I wish

You sure ??
Noticed that both Clarkson and Hamster said in the 2002 vid that although they reckoned the Evo was even quicker round the twisties, they'd both still rather go home in the Impreza.

Nah it was to do with the smoother ride, creamier power delivery and generally superior refinement.

My tuppence....
I`ve had 2 classic uk turbo Impreza`s, one saloon, one wagon, and 2 x bugeye WRX`s, one fairly modified.
I changed to an Evo 6 after blowing my engine on the last WRX I owned, as I never trusted it again. Silly?.........possibly
Anyhow, I absolutely love my Evo 6. I can`t honestly say i`ll ever return to Subaru ownership again, even though I still have a place in my heart for the marque.
My 6 is running 322bhp, with base mods, ie: decat, filter. I have 1 bar of boost and some funky gear ratios that mean im doing 4.5k rpm in 5th gear at 95mph!!! If you see me doing the speed limit in my car on the motorway, you`ll now know why
For me, I always changed my Impreza oil and filters every 3 months or 3000 miles, same with the Evo, and I only do 4000 miles in my personal cars and 25,000 in my company Ford Focus, so costs are pretty similar with the Mitsi and with the imprezas.
Now, I could not drive this Evo everyday, no way hose!! Its a bugger in traffic, the clutch is rock hard, its jerky and not the most comfortable either for a relaxing drive, but when im on boost and also blatting through country lanes, thats where I definitely prefer this car over any i`ve ever had or driven.
Impreza owners around me are now seriously considering trading for Evo`s after being passenger in mine, so I say just suck it and see for yourselves

One advantage other than those aleady mentioned on the Evo is the twin scroll turbo on UK models. When I drove an Viii I was impressed at the boost from 2000 revs. Still, no burble.

Don't know where people get the idea the AYC on the Evo is twitchy, mine sticks to the road like nothing, wet or dry... Didn't think it was possible for something to corner that fast until I had a test-drive (stock suspension), although I'd say it is a bit hard for some of the bumpier roads

From: Bournemouth - 5x Ex Impreza owner. 997 GT3 CS.
Evo 8 neeeeds MR bilstiens on it. The standard FQ stuff is VERY hard.
MG driver is right though. All this **** about which is faster etc, they are so bloody close you would be foolish buying one on some journo's view that one is 1 sec quicker round a track
Its totally specualtive. Techincally the EVO is better, but that doenst make it better for one person over another.
Reano - spot on with the power comment. Scoobs very rarely make the power. Anyone seen an STi PPP get anywhere near 300 bhp? No.

Got to laugh on the Wr1 and Evo top gear youtube video when they put them around the track, i think Hammond says something along the lines of "errr look at that, thats just awful" as the Impreza goes well offline.
Was barely faster than the Sti and still slower than the old Evo let alone the new one, in the end. They were giggling at it.
