He called me up saying, "My car's been nicked, my car's been nicked!"
"Where from?"
"Ouside my house"
"Thieving b@stards"
"Yeah well it was morning and I left it running whilst I went to have my coffee as usual....."

If someone is going to steal your car, which i presume you are talking about with the tow thing, I think they wont be fussed if its in gear or not, and they will just either put the window through, or come get your keys.
If your in a hurry, sound, start the car with the remote, unlock the doors as you would have to do, put the key in the ignition and the doors lock instantly! Thats much safer than having to get in ur car, putting the key in, clutch down, check if its in neutral, then starting the car, then waiting for doors to lock.
At the end of the day, its a show off toy with some great benefits, it leaves all the doors locked and alarm switched on... it switches off the engine if it goes above 2k revs, or if the brake is pressed, or the alarm sounds. It warms the car for you when your inside @ 6:40am having a quick cup of tea before work, therefore, ur not hurting ur car as much when driving it in really harsh conditions. My drive to work involves a quick trip down a single carriage way with national speed limit, so it is a bonus if my car is warm before I do this.
This is just all personal opinion of course, obviously your bad experiance with clifford has left you wounded for life - mine however, has been a good one, and I would recommend it to anyone!

According to The Road Traffic (Construction and use) Regulations 1986;
Regulation 98; the driver of a vehicle shall, when the vehicle in stationary, stop the action of any machinery attached to or forming part of the vehicle so far as may be necessary for the prevention of noise or of exhaust emissions.
Regulation 107; no person shall leave, or cause or permit to be left, on a road a motor vehicle which is not attended by a person licensed to drive it unless the engine is stopped and any parking brake with which the vehicle is required to be equipped is effectively set.
Highway Code legal requirement; Rule 214
Parking. You must switch off the engine, headlights and fog lights.
You are likely to a fixed ticket for this offence

Of course if your going to sleep, and know you will be next starting the car tomorrow morning, you will leave it out of a gear, on flat land, out of gear.
If someone is going to steal your car, which i presume you are talking about with the tow thing, I think they wont be fussed if its in gear or not, and they will just either put the window through, or come get your keys.

What if you don't park on flat ground?
I'm not talking about steeling your car, i'm talking about towing in general..on a AWD car...
If you're in a hurry..yeah that sounds real quick.......i'd much rather unlock the car with the remote, turn over, clutch up and go....
and these aren't down to bad experience......just stating facts
It's a toy and one insurance compies don't always like....

I have no idea why that is relavent in the slightest to what we are discussing and what actual relation this has to Intellistart?

You'll more often than not (if not all the time) be parked on your drive = private land = no ticket! If parked on the road outside your house then for most of us the TW will have to be up pretty f*cking early to catch us!

The relation to the intellistart is that when parking it in gear to save it being towed etc, you can't use the intellistart......er......

Be warned guys...
I was at Wilsons Subaru the other year and they had in an Evo with intellistart for servicing, while the car was on the ramp, an engineer put the keys in his pocket and the start button was accidentally pressed!!
It attempted to start and damaged the front of the car!
The last I heard there not taking any cars with clifford intellistarts for servicing anymore!

As mentioned, the car will not have CAT1 or 2 status with intellistart enabled. Even if the system is rated at cat 1, thatcham will not recognise it as intellistart breaks the stipulated rules set out for cat 1 and cat 2 status.
Also, don't try it with the car in gear. Not all cars have neutral switches, so the inhibit cannot be wired in properly

To be able to use intellistart, you need to "prime" the car, in order to do so, you must press the relavent button on the remote while ur key is inserted in the ignition, take out the key, (so engine is still running), get out the car and lock it with the remote, thus making it impossible to leave the car in gear, as you have to be outside the car to lock it, to be able to use intellistart.
You cannot just go upto it pressing a button and it will start, it has to be primed before use, - Impossible to start it while in gear, as even when you unlock the car, it resets the sequence back to normal.

you said, no.
So i though ahh right, I have no idea what he is talking about, surely he isnt talking about if you park it somewhere you shouldnt, because thats the only other reason why your cars going to be towed, either stolen, or for something you shouldnt be doing. If people are gonna steal the car, they are going to whether its in gear or not, and if someone is towing your car away, youve done something wrong.
So, you wouldnt use intellistart if you park infront of buckingham palace on double yellows, its common sense.
