Honestly, this country is daft when it comes to winter. We get one little sniff of snow and ice and the whole place acts like the world is coming to an end. I spent last winter happily tooling about in my MX-5. No special tyres or anything.

 

LOL I used to put my other car away for the winter and use the scoob

Now I'm back to one car does all

 

mines been away since nov but been getting more bits to put on itso not realy saving money whats the point of having a nice car when its mainly dark outside so i cannot look at it very well by an cheap run around and if you brake it it doesnt matter

 

My beast normally only comes out for the weekends now anyhow





as i have a mighty Micra for use in the week for using to work and ar$ing around in

 

mine is off to bed for the winter now just noticed some marks on my wheels and only had them a couple of months also as some people have said i can do some work it when i want no need to get it done in a rush if it takes me a week to do it takes me a week i dont have to rush and put it back together to get to work i have a crappy purple clio its a lil work horse starts every time would rather have it looking spot on for the summer and the shows.

 

mine doesn't come out that much this time of year.... have the discovery to use..

 

MINE WILL BE HYBERNATING FOR THE WINTER AS FROM NEXT WEEK

 

Mine's tucked away in a quiet corner of the factory, blocked in by about 100 tonnes of steel. 'tis the season for them to go missing....

 

oh, and they're crap in the snow (not that we ever see any )

 

Mine is in hibernation already, but ive hardly used it for the last 6 months anyway

The main reason for me, is that I work in Liverpool, sometimes I have to carry bits n bobs in the car, sometimes im in dodgy areas, sometimes Im in nice areas, I never usually know until that morning, so I have another car which is cheaper to run and a month newer than the scoob

Scoob needs new tyres, and I want to get a bit of work done it too, splitter needs respraying etc, wheels need refurbing or new ones

Plus a few other jobs that need doing to it

So im in no rush to get it back on the road just yet

 

I bought this car for the dirt trails and the bad winter weather!

What is the point of having AWD if you are going to be driving around in a Nissan Micra?

Nothing better or safer (in my opinion) than to have an AWD car in crap weather!

As for the Scoob, it only comes out twice a month in the Summer, let alone the winter!!

 

Some odd people. It's a Jap chav wagon with **** all resale value so just use the thing. As already said we hardly even have a winter these days. Think a few people should go find the gay thread in NSR and show their real colours.

 

Maybe garage a 22B - but keep using the rest of them, I think their loads of fun in the snow - but we only had 2 days of it last winter round here

 

exactly a nice limited edition I can understand it, I used to put my E30 M3 Evo 2 away and just keep it ticking over, but a Jap saloon made of tin foil, everyone is getting a little precious

 

My RB5 has been off the road for nearly a month now, using my 1600 sport through the winter. Glad i have as i got sprayed by a gritter last night....

Again it gives me a chance to get a few things sorted while im not using it.

Avoiding the salt is the best way i say!

 

and when you come to sell it it will make next to no difference. Ok the gritter thing I can understand a bit but you stand plenty of chances of a stone chip any time of the years. With a bit of awareness you can avoid gritters.

If blokes on an Astra forum or whatever were asking this we'd rip the **** out of them. You're driving a jap saloon car at the end of the day.

 

There's a lot of "whats the point, just use it" here.

If people want to keep their cars looking good and use them only when they want, then thats up to them.

I dont enjoy driving my car in the winter, because I know the damage its doing and I cant be arsed washing it all the time. If I thought I was getting rid in the next few years, I would use it all the time.

Its been getting the "blimey thats in good nick for its age" comments for a while now and long may they continue.

 

LOL... i'll be using mine as daily transport as always. Even tho it's only 9 months old i don't give a ****e about gritters anymore (when i picked the car up last March i pulled onto the motorway right behind a gritter and got covered.... the thing wasn't even an hour old to me then!).

My Ferrari does stay in the garage over winter tho

Theres a nack to it, once your in though, plenty of room, you only spend a very small percentage of your time getting in or out so its all good.

I've brought one for winter, but thats cause its more sensible than a 280bhp 2wd Astra!!!

Plus its a UK, so has underseal!

Its all relative to a few things though really isnt it surely

A) if i had money for a new impreza yes i`d use it all winter as really i wouldnt appreciate it so much "easy come easy go"

B)i cant go out and buy another classic "easily anyway"with the same mileage in this condition,looked at around 12 before buying this(and that were 3yr ago)

c)theres car enthusiasts amongst us and theres ppl with fast cars each are a different type of person-to some ppl imprezas are to drive and arent so bothered about going mad polishing etc which is fair enough because its up to the individual,to others (me included) its about keeping them mint aswell-dont even agree with the limited edition comment really either, a mint cars a mint car regardless of model/spec in my opinion, the fact it may be a RB5/P1/22B/STI etc dont even come into it-its what the car means to the individual that generally determines how they look after it.

 

The Michelin DRICE studless winter tyres are going on it tonight and I'm praying for snow

changed the tyres to some better wet/damp performers is the most i'll do, expect them to cope with all but the 2 days max of snow we might get.

think the thing to do guys is not drive like a ****, drive to the road conditions and don't expect the car to do it all for you

can't beat a cold, dry winters morning blast

 

My front wheel drive little old Fiesta feels infinitely safer in slippy conditions than the Scoob which wiggles and slides and feels downright dangerous. Yes it has full geometry set up etc. I use the Scoob all year round, but will not go out on the road in snow and ice if I can possibly help it. I'm sure with winter tyres they are fine but who bothers/can afford to change the tyres, not many. I'm otherwise surprised to hear so many people say they find the Impreza has any grip or traction in slippy conditions at all. Even with new tyres I only really trust it in the bone dry.
