[QUOTE=Evez]I have the same car mate, with the sort of mods you are talking about.
About £1200 fitted, gives you 235BHP at the wheels and a torque curve to keep you very happy indeed. Puts the car in a different league to the standard set up for not much money. Thats all new by the way cheaper with second hand bargains.
Thanks Evez, what sort of power does the standard car put out at the wheels?

ive got both, a vectra GSi and a scooby, and i can say the vectra is faster than uk standard wrx's...maybe not off the line but once rolling it goes fairly well...but my scoob is tuned and the veccy cant really keep up

Nothing worse than being beat.
I’ve got a 2002 wax but mods should be the same. So far running 316BHP, all that i've fitted is a full s/s exhaust with sports cat an up pipe, a k&n cold air intake, vf34 turbo and a ecutek remap. It cost about £2500 in total, but did some work myself. It drives so much better than before and should keep up or beat a most things on the road, just need to improve the road holding now or slow down.

get rid off the bailey dv 2 mate they just sound nice get the standard dv back on it wi a hks greenie mushroom and it will sound just as nice with out the lose of power

For me :
273bhp on an 01 WRX
- decat centre pipe only - £150
-Ecutek3 remap - £580
Dramatic improvment !
Although actually I think the most worthwhile thing I've done with my car is to upgrade the suspension - it was too soft as std ! Prodrive springs inc geometry, by dealer £450, Whiteline Anti rollbar and droplinks, £130.

Ive seen several half decent sub 100k Omega V6s for about £500 too. Our budget/limit is £500 and Im confident that I can get a decent car thatll take four days of thrapping for under that.

Standard thing for exhaust, map etc on a WRX is about 280bhp, a bit less on some of the more conservative rollers, this is flywheel hp - virtually no-one quotes wheel hp in this country. I've seen standard WRX's on similar rollers give anywhere from about 205 to 230 ish bhp, but the bigger benefit is extending the useful power band up and down the rev range.
However, the Vectra probably has 300bhp or so with a remap, and lower transmission losses than a 4wd car. You won't get over 300bhp without changing the turbo. There's a real risk you won't match the torque of a mildly modified Vectra VXR and keep your existing WRX gearbox intact.
Say what you like about the Vectra, it's a 2.8 Litre turbo lump, which equals lots of torque and potential to get very decent power. I'd expect a chipped Vectra to be a comfortable match for an STi PPP in a straight line once rolling. And EVO mag pitched the Vectra against Mitsi Evo & scoob and were really rather surprised about how close it kept to them across "the twistys" in Wales.
Realistically, if you want to blow away chipped Vectra VXRs in high speed straight line work, you need to spend serious money on modifying a WRX, or start with a faster car to begin with.
Having said that, put a sports cat downpipe, change your up-pipe, maybe port your headers and fir a few Samco hoses and an ECUTEK remap, you might not be in a position to beat him, but your car will be a lot more fun than it is now. If you want to look after the gearbox but go a bit faster, consider an uprated top mount intercooler and hybrid td04 turbo, for perhaps 320bhp/320lbft. However, exhaust, ported headers, TMIC, hybrid td04 turbo, hoses, remap will probably cost in the £2.5k region or so. Bigger turbos and you're best to expect a gearbox and clutch change at some stage, ideally a front mount intercooler, so to go for 350bhp+ with daily driver safety levels, with new engine/gearbox parts fitted by a specialist, think £5k+. You might do it well for less, but don't rely on it.

if you are after more power the JDM STI is a better platform for modding than a uk spec

AWD tranmission losses are always overstated on this site.

The single worst and most annoying trait about the Vectra, is that it tries to be all things to all men, a repmobile, family wagon, fast car etc.
And to be completely honest, it doesn't do a bad job
Taking that into account, it's even worse that that 'rally-bred' Scoob got torn a new one...
I just think Subaru have lost the ball slightly on this one, I mean is it just me who remembers when 215bhp was a lot..? Nowadays that's the norm - even STI's are that well respected anymore.
