A young-fella i work with was telling me the other day how his m8 got a P1 and paid £2k for it .
Isn't every early JDM WRX advertised as an STI ?
Maybe the P1 is the new STI ?.

Cheapest P1 I've heard of was 4.5k and it had a blown engine.

Good info Mike. So the whit one still has the DCCD or was it removed? The switch looks like its still there.

Mike Wood so the white one was based was a Type R but were all the other "Blue" P1's used A Type R as the Donor Car?

IIRC Most Type R's without ABS will have DCCD if has it has ABS will not have DCCD so assume it was removed on the Prototype

A Type R should have DCCD and no ABS but we wanted the longer gearing of the 4 door and the ABS so couldn't have DCCD although the switch was perhaps still there.

ABS was too difficult to retro-fit so the prototype didn't have it.

The show cars were built from Blue STi V5 Type Rs made to look the part ( we used the white one for development as we had it 'in stock' and couldn't wait for blue ones to arrive.

A P1 isn't a Type R with bits removed, it best described as a V6 4 door built into a 2 door bodyshell with Type R suspension. Bit more complex than that as some parts were fitted in Japan and more were fitted in the UK but it's more correct than saying it's a low spec Type R.

It should be possible to fit a later 6speed box to a P1 as it's been done on several 99/00MY cars before. As a P1 was never fitted with any DCCD bits in the first place you'd have to use all the stuff from whatever the box came out of but I believe some people have run manual DCCD with ABS using a new controller. not sure what the effect on the ABS would be but I can't see something that tries to keep all the wheel speeds similar affecting it adversely. I'd want to test it fully myself before letting anyone else loose in it though!!
