agreed, just like you can't programme it completely out of humans either. you just have to take all the precautions you can to limit the chances of the worst case scenario happening.

She wasn't at her parents house, they were out celebrating new year, and when they returned, Ellie asked if she could stay where she was, Ellie was staying at her grandmothers house who she shared with her aunt & uncle
She was found in the living room, they think it may have been the fireworks that set Reuben (the dog) off

Terrible tragedy but seeing as since 1991 its been illegal to breed / own / look at a pit bull then you have to ask what the f@ckwit of an owner was doing with it in the first place??
I feel so sorry for the parents. It is terrible what has happened but well you do chuffing wonder...

Its even more depressing that people can make statements like that about the death of a 5 year old girl especially with the grinning face and thumbs up. It really turns my stomach.

All Black people must be thieves to you
All Muslims must be Terrorists
All Scooby drivers must be Chavs.
An agressive dog is a badly trained or untrained dog. Blame the owner not the animal.

Lo and behold another kid dead, and yet again it's one of those 'devil dogs' that are perfectly safe and friendly.
Ah well, keep the blinkers on, maybe a nice Staffy/Doberman/Rottie etc will rip them off for you one day.
By the way, I too have owned a Labrador that was an excellent dog which unfortunately had a strange tendency to bite anybody who knelt down, weird. Otherwise friendly dog goes mental for it's own reasons, who'd have thunk it ?

I own a Staffie, so that must make me a chav or a Pikey who takes his dog to dog fights

A sad story to start the New Year. Luckily our labrador is very gentle with our baby but we always remain vigilant just in case.

Im sick of people ripping on staffies ive had mine for eleven years and hes never once snapped at a human, hes been around children all his life.
AND lets be honest here we are talking pit bulls not staffies, staffies by nature are a friendly dog, its all the other so called acceptable dogs that try to have a go at my dog.

And I'm not so sure that a dog has to be owned by a Chav for it to be a mental case. Didn't Princess Annes (or some other 'Royal') Dog have a chomp of someone a while ago?

Every dog can be aggressive. Whether it be a Staffie, Rotty, or Labrador. Training is the key to any dogs behavior. People read or hear about some d1ckhead who's badly trained their dog, whose then gone on to bite a young child. The whole breed then gets a bad reputation.

Happy 2007 to you Jonno - hope the hangover is improving. By all accounts I wasn't too bad this morning myself
If this is the case it supports my argument. The dog got a fright/scare from the fireworks and acted instinctively. You cannot legislate for everything when dealing with something that is alive with feelings and emotions. It could have been a very well trained dog for all we know but with something to scare it like that it just reverted to its natural programming which is to be aggressive.
I was talking to my partner about this and she is a big dog lover and also a dog warden. She says she gets a lot of calls about people that are letting their 'pit bull' run around the park and 99/100 it's a Staffie doing no wrong. Seems they are quite a misunderstood breed that are actually quite friendly towards humans depsite looking pretty mean and hard.

Wonder what the odds are?
On second thoughts, I'll scoop my kids up and kick the fcucker in the chops if it comes within range.
