Who's an exercise/gym loon?

Can highly recommend that powerbar, I got one and it works really well, even on a new build flimsy looking dividing wall doorway. Excellent bit of kit for improving pull ups.
Matteeboy, those are decent stats, I can see myself stopping at 12 stone, I love swimming and I think at 12st5 Id be more suited to sinking.

Matteeboy, you want to sign up for this later in the year mate, looks like great fun! I'm aiming for 2 hours 30 minutes as it's my first time doing this race.
KoT - LOL at knocking out story! I got one of those bars at first, went to screw it in but decided I didn't want to trash a decent doorframe so returned it.
Powerbar can take 25 stone so it's pretty sturdy. Having said that, mine's going a little bit wobbly on one of the struts.
Just been told about a press up similar to mine but with elevated feet - In this months Mens Fitness (or Health) - checking it out this weekend!
Now I'm over 30, I'm under no illusions that it's as easy to stay in shape - hence the step up in exercise. Even after a week non exercising (had flu), I felt like a lump of lard.

One thing that's really noticeable as you build big muscles is how much they rob your body of oxygen when you try to do cardio.
I do a challenge event every year (cycle, run, canoe type thing) and as Ive built quite large muscles in parts Ive found it much more draining to do.
It makes it a lot harder, but Im hoping I find a happy medium at some stage between cardio/fitness and muscle size.
My arms measure 14.5 inches round when flexing, and have about a 43" chest, when I started my arms measured well under 14 inches, the progress really feels brilliant, just need to improve my running/cycling.
Does anyone use supplements? I take a protein shake twice a day and a multi shake (myprotein Hurricane XS) once a day after my workout, seems to help, you are supposed to have up to 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight and I just couldnt get all that from normal foods.
PS: at 34 I can sypathise with how difficult it is!!

Just take fish oil tablets and multivits and iron.
Used to have protein shakes and creatine but no need now and I have no intention of getting bigger.
Best thing I did (after years of not gaining) was finding a proper routine with all exercises to MMF. The appetite naturally shot up and the gains were pretty amazing - Three stone in two years.
Realised that too much muscle actually gets in the way - Think the balance of strength/bulk and fitness is just how I want it now which is handy.
No point being built like a brick outhouse if you can't run very far!

At 41 I now find myself on a very gradual downhill slope. Or at best maintaing what level I have.
Still running rings around most 25 year old though
The biggest problem I have is my joints - thats what restricts me. Esp my left Knee. I have had torn ligaments all over the shop - loads of old injuries that have acumulated over the years
My friends joke - that I am the fittest cripple you will ever meet LOL.

KoT - I used to eat tonnes of tuna too - I gained the weight at Uni. While most were getting wasted all the time, I was training 4+ times a week but it meant food was on a serious budget.
Luckily wife cooks excellent healthy food which helps immensely. Don't miss force feeding myself one bit!

I started about 6 weeks ago, mainly cardio work 5 times a week on my running machine,(tend to do 3 miles with a variation of speeds to shock my body)I currently average about 12 min miles so not mega fast but it is working me hard and the weight is coming off. Just started to do light weights as well to help with a bit of toning up. What prompted me was being a fat knacker at just over 19 stone (6ft 2) at the age of just turned 32. Needed to do something so I did. Now down to a slightly more healthy 17st 4 and still dropping. Have changed my diet and funnily with the exercise dont feel as hungry but that could be down to me drinking a lot more water per day (at least 2 litres) Still have the odd takeaway though at weekend. I also use some thermogenic supplements which work well for me as well. I actually feel guilty now if I dont do something

Dont really what to think was given some by some bloke at work the other day, did not really expect much (most supplements are bullsh#t) but seemed to be buzzing me **** off at the gym , felt like I could have done 10 hours. Was checking the legality of it before I go and by some. It seems to be legal but banned in professional sports?

Could the difficulty with cardio you refer to be simply due to the extra weight of the muscle you put on after having done weights ?

You guys want to try 'Davina's' DVD workout. My fiancee roped me into trying it yesterday and oh my god, do I ache today!
On the gym note, I train 3 times a week, but that's not always in the gym.
I may go for a 30 min run (4mile) and then do some free weights, sit-ups and press-ups at home.
If I do go to the gym, i'll do a faster but shorter run on the treadmill, or do a hill climb on the cross trainer. The i'll do 30 mins of weights/sit-ups.
Basically, I try to vary my exercise, otherwise. i don't think I'd bother going as much.
