Here's a good article for you to read i'm not sure what the exact performance details are for your car

Subaru Impreza FAQ

Look in this section "1.4.2 Japan"

standard 93wrx i think is
0-60 4.9secs
140mph top speed
BUT that is when the car was in tip top condition.
mine still hits 140 (speedo indicated) but acceleration is slower (gearbox needs sorting)

That induction kit may or may not be helping, its impossible to say without having someone with mapping experience look at how the car is fuelling.

If you are after a supplier of spares and to have any work done in the Northwest its worth knowing about Andy at ScoobyTeknix in fleetwood. Always has spares kicking about new or from breakers (might even have a decat downpipe laying around, you never know)

www.ScoobyTeknixUK.com

I'd be surprised if in the excitement of trying to get a perfect gear change you could tell the difference between 4.9 and 5.5 lol. And don't be embarrassed about being beaten by a FQ320, minimum is going to be 320bhp but as with the scoob it takes to mapping very well indeed - ask my cousin pushing 360 and leaving my poor wheezing little wrx in its slipstream.

hehe yea im not to embarrassed i always give credit where its due and my car did cost 3 grand afterall !! Hey heres 1 4 u all.................when i bought the car it seemed really fast but after 5 mins or so of hard driving it wud simply cut out under hard driving. I took it back and they said the ecu had been played with but the other parts around it hadnt and it was overboosting hence the cutting out. I have since got a standard ecu and everything is fine so whats the difference in the for example esl chip and why WONT it do what the old ecu did?! thanks

An ESL chip raises the fuel cut point to account for the raised boost so you shoudn't have any problems with the car cutting out.

Are you sure your old ECU had been played with? Have you looked inside it?

Chris Rees mentioned it (he wrote the book about imprezas 'You and your impreza turbo').
How do they know your ecu has been messed with?

chers craig...............the car was under warranty so literally a week after i bought it the probs started to arise so just took it straight back and they shipped it off to a subaru specialist on the wirral (the company name escapes me) and they instructed the diagnosis as what i mentioned above. As previous craig i have no technical ability and wouldnt of known anyway!! But either way you would recommend the esl chip? What is this apexi power fc thingy that gets mentioned alot?.............sorry to ankle bite!!
haha

The Apexi Power FC is a complete mappable replacement ECU. You would need this to go over the 300bhp as your standard ECU is very limited.

I would recommend this when doing any mods to your car. but as you on a budget the ESL chip is more than capable for your requirements.

Apex'i gives you the tech specs of the ecu.
I agree with Craig that the esl chip is a more cost effective way of increasing power and thats what you mentioned in your 1st post.
The Apexi plus a first map is about £700 then a tweak everytime you alter something (eg injectors, intercooler, etc) so does get expensive and to spend that much on a 13yo car is a bit much imo.

A lot of rubbish often talked about fuel and early impreza's. In the early 1990's japan fuel was not 100RON as it is now, so the early ECU's were mapped for probably something quite clost to our 97RON super. I put 95ron in my 1993 wagon for 6 months and 24 months on its still the picture of health. Even so Tesco 99 is lovely stuff and I'd recommend it to any car owner (becuase of the 5% bio ethanol element = 5% less of my money to IRAN).

Any early ECU can have an ESL chip put in it, some need soldering I think that the Z4 and Z5's already have sockets in them (though dont quote me on that as I am not certain).

Any TV or electronic repair shop will be able to solder the chip into your ECU for very little money.

The instructions will come with the chip.

Not if its a good one it isn't, mods can always be removed and sold on as with any age of car

if the octane level isnt acheived it can cause knock, then the ecu will retard timing for safety! lowering power level! It will still run, but with less power!
