Wonderwheels...does it actually knacker your alloys?

I've experienced a couple of people who have advised me that they've been regularly using wonder wheels over at least a 12 month period, and in both cases the alloys were Knacked (blistering, really burnt on brake dust etc..).
As for using a synthetic pan scrubber
A previous owner must have used that method on my wheels, they're covered in fine scratches and look really dull. Hopefully some wetsanding will cure it butI can see a refurb on the horizon
