Mike Wood has stated in the past that they dont refer to them as sti8/9/10 etc. they are referred to as MY etc.

He did also state that if the numbering had continued then only the japanese domestic market cars would have the correct numbers, the UK ones wouldnt be an STi 7, 8 or 9.

glad to help.
i would say they should be run on 98/Optimax (v-max); if PPP'd its essential. wouldnt run mine on anyhting else TBH.
my 01 WRX always ran better on Optimax, never used anyhting else in my STis.
what you drive at the moment?

You could either buy a JDM and run it on V-Power along with some octane booster or get it re-mapped for UK fuel like Iain Litchfield does to his imports.
IIRC Tony Burns has been running his Spec C un-mapped for a while now with no issues, just using octane booster to keep things safe.
Go JDM mate, it makes sense

Never had a problem sticking in 98RON and using 95RON when i couldnt get my hands on the good stuff.
Its something I really need to consider with a STI cuz I know I cant always get 98RON

Why would a JDM be ruled out mate?

Re-maped for 98 or 95RON?

New age ecu's don't need remapping to uk fuel seen as tho you an get v power which is 99 ron.And even if you were to use 97 ron the ecu would adapt to the fuel.
#43
The ecu in a newage car will 'adapt' to V-Power by running less total timing than it would on a higher octane fuel. However, there are limits to how far it will go, and putting 95 ron fuel in may be too far. Personally I wouldn't even use BP Ultimate without octane booster.
The ecu uses the knock sensor to make adjustments but it does not monitor the activity across the whole rpm range. Above a certain rpm it will stop 'listening' so won't back things off if there is detonation above the upper rpm of the range.
If you're lucky then it will detect det early on in the rpm range and reduce the whole map, if it dets really badly then it will also reduce the boost and switch to the high det fuel map injecting more fuel in an attempt to save the engine.
If you're unlucky then it will detect det in the lower rpms but only back things off in these areas and leave things alone in the upper rpms. Then when you get to higher rpms it will be back to running the full JDM map with no det monitoring by the ecu.
In short, if you have a JDM STI then either put good fuel in it and use octane booster to get as close to 100 ron as you can, or have it remapped for the fuel you're going to put in it most of the time (or lowest octane fuel you're likely to use).

good idea but it seems stupid if I buy a JDM then remap it so i can run in lower grade fuel.

the revision blob eye 05 sti is much better handling than previous uk newage stis, definetely the one to get if you like cornering hard. and if its a ppp then dont put in 95 ron at all,it will not like it minimum of super unleaded regardless of revs

I have a my05 sti ppp, which I bought less than 2 month ago; when I picked up from dealer, it was filled with petrol, but the car didn't feel right. It was quite unwilling to rev high and slow to rev high. I could only conclude that it was 95 oktan fuel in it, as after I put in BP Ultima(the best thing in my area) the car was going much better. With the 95 it was puffing&popping all the time too. After a few more fills with ultima the car now is quite willing to rev high, and pops rarely.
Didn't have a chance yet to fill it up with optimax, but recon it will be even better For what it takes, my old bug wrx ppp loved optimax and was like a different car.

The STi "9" MY05 car (whilst talking about uk cars..ish) also has a newer re designed crank, and has uprated oil pump also. The steering column has also been altered by taking out some rubber bush to give it a more direct feel (but unfortunately sometimes giving you knocking noises)
the 9 is a much more solid feeling car to drive, but not as good as the same MY 05 JDM cars. If I knew then what I know now, I think I would have gone for the JDM

UK 2005/2006 models have DCCD, not sure about the yaw control the JDM's have but most is the same.
JDM's are a far high spec and no doubt the choice if you want the reach a certain level of tuning but thats if you want to tune. Some people have preference on UK cars due to service, warranty and being able to resell the car at a later date.
