I've never once considered buying a Vauxhall, I think they're ****.
However, the new Corsa VXR looks a very nice car. Reading what they were saying to Evo Magazine, and by all accounts it should be a right laugh to drive around quickly in.
Power isn't everything. A 106 GTI is THE best car I've driven, and that only had 120BHP.
As much as I like running around in a 300BHP Impreza, I really do miss thrashing a good little hot hatch about. If reviews are good, I could be tempted to go back to a small Hot hatch.

Exactly what I thought until just over a year ago.
Test drove so many car that even I got bored of them and the Astra really stood out.
If you told me two years ago I'd now be running a DIESEL ASTRA ESTATE I would have laughed, grabbed a bat and battered you over the head
Yet it's been brilliant.
Still think the majority of the Poxhall range is still pretty cr4p though.

I've been driving an MY00 Astra Sri for about 5 years and 110,000 miles. It had 10k on it when we got it.
Reliable, comfortable, it stop, goes, 4 doors, has heating, seat 5, seats move meaning I can take stuff down the tip. Brilliant car.
Other than the oil filter housing having to be replaced, the car has been faultless. Well the aircon packed up, but I begrudge paying out £200 to sort it (fan and regas/service).
Not exciting but does what it was asked to do.

Davy - Exactly.
While I thought the downgrade was worse than being hanged at the time, the convenience of having a reliable car that does the job is massive.
Only thing that's pricey on mine is the oil and the tyres (225/45 17" Conti Sport Contact 2s - Slight overkill methinks).

Superbikes make decent economy, and a small ish car will also do better than a saloon.
My 205 has 200 brake, and when hammering on it rarely dips under 30mpg since being mapped (20mpg before mapping). It weighs all of 900kg so doesn't have as much weight to drag around.

You're forgetting weight

Looks like a nice little car to me. It should be quite a good performer and keep the other hot hatch manufacturers out there honest.
The narrow minded out there will make the usual boring Vauxhall comments, but most of them were driving round in cars with Carlos Fandago wide wheels and furry dice a few years back so their comments are irrelevant.

The Clio is a fantastic little car, having owned one and used it harder than most for a few years, I can still find little to fault it.
Cheap - yes
fast - not bad
fun - yes

I've had many French cars and never had any major reliability problems with any of the std ones. The key thing is they always handle superbly and have proper character.

French - I've been there an done that - Handled well, was light, but made of paper and balsa wood and virtually halved in value in 18 months.
Fun to drive, not fun to own.

Might have done....
I was young, doing quite well and a bit naive...
Anyone tried the new Clio?
French cars are great in principle but at least three people I know have got rid of their Clio Sports within months of getting them due to insane reliability problems.
Try getting a test drive in the Clio 182 Trophy and you'll more or less get laughed at by a dealer.
