if your after an ikea rack mart360, i recommend the oppli..
IKEA | home | Tv & media solutions | TV & media solutions | TV benches | OPPLI TV bench on castors
buy two, then connect them together with a bit of no nails and hey presto..

much better looking than a single i think

Now my set up is finally done can put some decent pics. Not suprisingly its similiar To Alistairs as he very kindly let me have a good look at his set up.

Components are as follows.

Pioneer PDP 506 XDE 50" Plasma (with the optional speakers)
Denon 1920 DVD player (top notch)
Denon 1906 Reciever (top rated 'budget' reciever)
Wharfedale Monitor MFM 7 fronts
Mission 77 series centre and surrounds
Paradigm PS1000 sub
(speakers and sub second hand from AV forums £400)

Seating is similiar to Alistairs, From DFS, just need to get the extra footstool so can seat/lie 8 people. Just looking around for a suitable table now.

Mrs stipulated everything had to be hidden so had to splash out on the black units. Use a infra red eye when watching normal TV. Just open the doors when the amp is on to let the heat out.

When the room was being built, i dobbed a bit of plasterboard on the wall, dummy mounted the plasma, then marked around with a 2" access/ventilation gap all around.

Built the stud out till flush with the TV. All cables run in the stud, the rear speaker cables run behnd the plaster board and the sub cable and power lead under the carpet. You cannot see any AV gear or wires.

There is a tiled run to the french doors, so in summer can sit outside on a weekend and watch the footy / film

I have had power put to the rear, so when i want to i can add a projector set up.

Alistair - fab setup! Just stick yer pasty in the right cupboard to warm it up!

I am baffled why no black SKY+ box though! [by you or Mark]? All that kit and no HD sources? Also how do you control all the units remotely?

I got a flyer today off Makro for a proper HD TV [1080 V scan lines, PROGRESSIVE] just over the grand and 40"...oooohhhhh! I know you two are saying SPEND IT! Doesnt help that I've really gone off my 50" Sony KDFE LCD Proj due to purple fringing on highlight transistions; I plug a broadcast camera into it to check the days' work and people can have a purple halo - yuk!

I am using an eye (sitting on top of centre speaker) for the Sky. The pioneer remote can be set up to be operated via the sky remote but the sensor is in the screen anyway.

The DVD player and Amp - whenever i use tem i have the doors open for ventilation so i can just use the remotes as normal.

Where's your automated curtains that draw back to reveal the screen as the movie starts!?

Awesome setup! wish I had a room to do that in!

Alistair has all this kind of thing (on his curtains over the window, projector screen etc.), and the auto lighting settings as well! Extremely trick. He is a bit of a DIY god though it has to be said.

I'm far more of a manual guy (read skint)

Old photo's - Sky HD is now installed, with 500gB disk upgrade

Yep - Lutron Grafik Eye's - 12 circuits in the lounge, & 10 in the kitchen, hence the 4 controllers - very pleased with them. I've got another 12 circuits in our bedroom

As for the cushions - life's a compromise I guess, I got all my kit, she got the cushions & a TV in the bathroom.

The kit cupboard can get a little warm, there's a big hole in the top which helps, but on a hot day, I do leave the doors open a little if I've got a lot switched on. I was considering installing fans, but haven't gone that far yet.

Looking forward to it

Sky HD is definately sharper, but the content is a bit sparse and it does cost an extra tenner a month.......

I got a good deal on the box which finally tipped me over the edge.....

Diesel,

Sorry, I missed your question - I use IR distribution from Keene for mine as I need to switch the Amp, DVD, lights etc and not only are they in a cupbaord, they're in a different room.

my setup and my little black bitch...

Has the room redecorated since these pics were taken, moved rack and replaced Xbox and GC with Xbox 360 and Wii. Also, replaced crappy sony rear speakers with Missons bi-polars.

Its great for Wii tennis!
