The Danes are taxed very highly, and decent cars are limited the privelaged few. I have family there, and when they come over they're amazed to see flashy cars like knackered old Scoobies.
they don't seem to mind the income tax though - they have a much better education and social care system.

In any case there are very few countries that have the levels of cars available to the average person in the UK these days.

Don't forget that Labour have changed the way that inflation is measured, so any comparison to the Tories is meaningless.
Labour invented the Consumer Price Index to measure inflation. Two things that are not included in this are house prices and Council Tax.
I don't know about anyone else, but my biggest two outgoings each month are my mortgage, followed by my Council Tax.
So when the figure released is 3%, this would really equate to something nearer 7 or 8% I reckon. There are other things not included, but they are the only two I can remember.
If you never believe any figures released by Labour, life becomes a lot clearer.

The Office of national Statistics now have a person inflation calculator at National Statistics Online. It includes most cost of living areas, but not private education. Mine was 5.2%, and we have pretty low expendature really (£15000 pa according to the data I put in here)
It's a bit slow, as it re-calcualtes at each key-stroke. Interesting though, especially given my expected 2% payrise.

So to summarise when the Tories were in control, even at the highest peak in inflation it was lower than the previous labour government. A wise man told me 'never trust labour', I think he was right.

Every one of Pete's threads ends up the same, he spouts a load of sh*t, then someone points out that he doesn't have a clue what he's talking about, then he disappears, knowing he's been well and truely owned.

By the time the last Conservative government ended however, they had got the economy into a stable and buouyant position and NL inherited that. Since then they have made it appear to be strong due to their repeated overborrowing and encouraging everyone to live on credit so that high street sales make the economy look good. Trouble is is it all built on borrowing which is a very dangerous existence.
