I live in Seacroft, granted the southern part where Killingbeck Police Station is still a sh*thole but I live right up in the other end and we don't get any, and I mean any trouble at all. In the last 10 years theres only been one car go missing and that is literally it.

As like other people have said, theres a few areas to be avoided if possible, yes North and East Leeds are the better areas

A 26 year old bloke with anything about him working in Leeds should live somewhere in Leeds and have a damn good time! Plenty of fun for the single chap to have about town

One of the pluses to working late sometimes in the area of Leeds Uni, is that there is some absolutely cracking totty scooting about when i leave work

You wont get DECENT inner city Leeds living without paying a premium, and i mean a premium!

I live over 40 miles from Leeds centre, the other side of York, and the commute takes anywhere between 40 minutes and 1 hour, but i love where i live. My priorities are different to yours though, as i have a wife and 2 kids.

If i was in your shoes, i would be listening to Sti Wanna Subaru

You've got the right idea

There certainly seems to be a lot of rental property available - I registered with one of those flatshare website and I've been overrun with offers - lots of people offering a choice of property as well!!! Clearly everyone up there has been buying buy-to-lets and now there arent enough tennants!

Looks like I'll be saving over 1200 a year in rent compared to High Wycombe!

Harrogates ok??

One of the nicest areas in the country!!

TBH If you want to live in Leeds then you need to be the North side which is Alwoodley or Adel. There are some other nice areas but they are mostly surrounded by poo holes!!

If youve got a fair bit of cash then I'd buy in Harrogate as it is only a 30 min train journey to Leeds but you cant get much more than a 2 bed apartment for 300k.

If you want to live in Harrogate try to find something around the 'Duchy/Kent road' area.....lots of apartments within a very nice area, no crime or noise....lived on Kent Road for 4 years and it was brilliant.

For Estate agents try James Tyreman, Myring/Heward as these people deal with the more desirable properties. If you are buying Leeds then try Trevor Nabaro (not sure if I spelt surname correctly)

I live in Savile Park which is in Halifax and as I mentioned in another post regarding Harrogate this place is so quiet but so close to train station and M62.

I moved here before my girlfriend (now wife) couldnt drive and we wanted somewhere where we were nowhere near a s**thole and Savile Park hits the spot. Nice houses, nice people, nice local boozer, near to the 62 and 5 mins walk from the train station.

Horsforth,Yeadon,Rawdon good location and about 10 to 15 mins journey to center of leeds, rawdon is the nearest but horsforth and yeadon have a more pubs etc....Thackley, Idle(Bradford ) but still the same distance to Leeds center and house prices slightly lower but still a good area.
Headingley is full of students and is like a 24hr car park when you try to get through it

I agree with whats being said, however budget is going to play a major part, city living is not going to be less than £800pcm.

I live in Oakwood (Roundhay) and I like it, granted its close to gipton and seacroft but house prices on our street are still at circa £420k with no garden or drive (Corner house, pretty bad example)

Chapel allerton is a nice area but over priced for the type of houses (some are 2 up 2 down style) ie same as harehills yet 2x or 4x the price.

some areas to consider:

Moortown
Allwoodley
Oakwood
Roundhay
Chapel Allerton
Sherburn and surrounding areas
Headingly
Horsforth
Cookrige
Otley
Ilkley

As for pubs and clubs, depends whether you can be arsed with town.. I personally cant be arsed going into town and getting into fights..

I tend do drink around local pubs and then Chapel Allerton.

Find some examples of places your considering and Ill let you know what I think, as Im sure the other locals will.

You must walk bloody quick if you can to Savile Park from the railway station in 5 mins! Nowt wrong with Halifax though!
I have a house available to rent between Halifax and Huddersfield if you're interested? PM me for details.
