After 20+ years it is gratfiying to know that most elements of society still support us. Not for why we are there (the Governmnt sent us) but what we do for the greater good.
Loyalty to a corpse is misguided, to a friend getting a beating or a comrade who is still alive I can understand. A dead body is just meat, nothing more nothing less.

As for the contention that 'most elements of society still support us'- I don't believe it's correct.

And MY opinion, and that of the majority I think you will find, is that you are wrong.

There, that's better.

I'll certainly go along with the majority here !

What the Marines did made me very proud indeed to be British.

Luckily that's just your opinion which counts for nothing.
What do you base it on though? You might find the majority of right wing bigots on here support that point of view but the feeling in the country isn't one of 'almost everyone supporting the war'.

Absolute crap.

Ever burried a someone without their body?

The loyalty is not to the body, its to the memory of the person and for their family and friends.

I'm guessing you are just on here to spark an arguement, congratulations.

As Lieutenant General Harold G. "Hal" Moore said
'I can't promise you that I will bring you all home alive. But this I swear, when we go into battle, I will be the first to step on the field and I will be the last to step off.
And this i swear, I will leave no one behind, dead or alive, we will all come home together'.

Basically you leave no one behind, British or American you do not leave fallen comrades on the field of war.

Fine words and a fantastic sentiment. Didn't quite happen like that in WWI or II though did it?

To risk lives to collect a corpse is a doctrine that belongs to another age.

As I've also said I don't necessarily believe the tale in any case.

Mathew, this isn't some kind of game of 'guess who', at least not for anybody who has half a brain cell.

The name is unimportant, what is of some meaning are the concepts being discussed.

At no point have I expressed personal dissaproval of 'our boys' (although I do believe you have to be an idiot to join the armed forces) I'm merely postulating the idea that being spoon fed information in time of war through official sources is the best way of being propagandised.

commendable actions, unfortunately it shows the state of our armed forces when they cant even muster up a troop carrying helicopter for the mission

15years ago we spent just over 5% of gdp on our armed forces, now we spend under 2.5% meanwhile nearly 30% of gdp goes on welfare

GlobalBan, before I did my recent course in wit and repartee, I would have been stumped for something to say in response to your eloquent posts. However, now I have it!

Global - When launching your full frontal assault to be the next Will Self of SN, try checking both your spelling and your grammar.

Both are pants.

KoT - How does "305 of GDP" get calculated?!
3.05%? 30.5%?

I don't claim to be perfect, my English has gone to pot as I don't speak or write it most of the time. If you're a polyglot yourself you'd probably understand.

Maybe you should point out my spelling and grammar mistakes rather than making general comments that would appear to have the aim of trying to score points (which they don't BTW)

I don't believe almost everbody in the UK supports the troops. I do believe there's probably a majority that do but to say 'almost everybody' is beyond the bounds of what credible IMO.

Sorry Global; no point scoring here. Just rather enjoy rumbling those that attempt to wrap their dreadful viewpoints in a cotton wool of false eloquence in an attempt to try and claim the moral high ground on the pretense of "intelligence."

Your resorting to cheap insults is a perfect indicator of this false "intelligence" and failure to actually back any of your inflammatory comments up with reasoned or factually correct content.

So please continue trying your best.

I believe this post quoted above to be full of 'the cotton wool of false eloquence'.

First of all point out the grammar and spelling mistakes rather than generalising. Then move on to trying to explain just why the viewpoints are 'dreadful'. Next if you can point out where the 'cheap insults' are in the posts, I think you'll find most of them are coming from the individuals who can't bear to think that not everybody is a slave to their own particular set of beliefs.

My comments aren't inflammatory, they are perfectly reasonable.

Just how do any of you know that the event in question actually happened?

So who do we think Globalban is? PS Lewis?

It's strange how you can change your name but you can't prevent people noticing that you're a complete c*ck!

Explain why I'm a 'complete c*ck' in your opinion- if you've the ability to do so.

My comments have been quite reasonable.

Er, how about referring to a member of the army who has been killed in the line of duty as a piece of "dead meat?

Hands up who thinks that's a reasonable comment?

It's a fact as well as a reasonable comment.
Any corpse is 'dead meat', whether it be that of someone who is a member of the armed forces, your or my mother, a child or jesus-f**cking-christ, all that's left is flesh, nothing else.

The fact that a number of people might 'put their hands up' isn't going to make it any less of a fact or bring the dead back to life.

It's a fact, learn to live with it.

I wasn't trying to argue with you, I was hoping for some kind of rational discussion. Obviously that isn't going to happen with someone who is incapable of expressing their viewpoint such as you.

As for 'appearing a ****' that's your opinion and possibly that of some of the other dirt on here. That being the case I'll treat it with the respect and importance it deserves.

Moving on to 'digging', I think you'll find it's you doing that..........'Pete' indeed.

What is there to discuss, 99% of the people on here are congratulating our soldiers for showing the sort of bravery you could never even dream of, while you are calling dead soldiers pieces of meat (even when someone on here has said that they know the person who died!).

You are also questioning whether it even happened for some reason. This makes me suspect you have a hidden agenda Pete.
