Bloody hell - Travel Agents are in deep merde at the moment and should be bending over backwards to help the remainder of the population that hasn't cottoned onto internet booking.
Well out of order and a real shame they have already spoiled what should have been a great holiday.
Report them to ABTA and kick their ***** hard.

If it's a stalling tactic, I would get her to stand in the shop and not leave until they've given her the refund. If they keep her waiting, then a loud voice always works wonders....

I rang up ABTA, Assoc British Travel Agents. Diiscussed the problem, and was told as its outside 30 days, I can cancell and get a full refund. If under 30days, then due to the type of error, i.e. on the behalf of the travel agent, then I should be able to cancel and get a full refund.
So, passed this onto my mum, and told her to go in today, and cancel. She's been told to wait til next week, when the woman is back, but this sounds like a stalling plan, to make it within the 30 days.

My mum is going there at 2pm. Ive told her to state that we have discussed this issue with ABTA, who have told us that due to the departure being over 30 days ago, then a full refund is allowed.
If they say no, or try to push the money into something else, or even for drop the addtional £563, I have told her to refuse, and stand firm about asking for a refund.
If they dont, I have told her to tell them that she will be ringing ABTA straight up and taking this matter further. She will also tell them that she will ring up the local press and see if they are interested in her story about how a travel agent tried to extore another £1100 out of two pensioners due to hormones !
So, fingers crossed.
Trouble is, she doesnt like causing a fuss, or anyone any trouble, so I have tried to stress to her that she must stand firm. She's going with her friend, who also has been told needs to pay additional £563.
Will see what happeneds.
Cheers for all your tremendous help. Scoobynet to the rescue again. Tremendous bunch all of you.

I think they must honour the original contract and although I know it is stressful for your mum, I would take control of it for her sake and insist that they honour that contract since if it was undercharged that is entirely due to them and your mum bought the cruise because of the price that was offered. It would be a shame if she lost her holiday.
I would threaten them with the "Office of Fair Trading" and the law as it stands since no one can reclaim extra money after the deal is done and something was bought for an agreed price.
Extra tax is another story but I think that Flash is also morally wrong for charging people restrospectively for that as a well. But who would expect any sign of "honour" from that direction?

Bit late now, but if it was me I'd take a dictaphone and ask if they minded if I recorded the conversation - this tends to focus the conversation on the facts
When it comes to something like this where they might be required to hand back all the money I wouldn't trust them.

Right, just got a call.
Mother went in, spoke to a different woman, told her about the increase of ££££ and how we 've spoken to ABTA, and want to cancel. She tried to talk her out of it, but mum stayed firm.
Eventually, she gave in, typed out a cancellation form where both old dears signed. This woman is now going to contact the cruise firm, and will ring my mum up letting her know the out come.
No mention of monies yet, or how the refund will be given. They have been told its over 30 days, and therefore it will be a full refund, but will see what this woman says when she rings my mum.
Just give us the ££££ you bunch of time wasters :-) Bath Travel ! Absolute w4kners.

The only way they can justify it, according to the price revision section in DCI's post, is part 2 (a) the contract states precisely how the revised price is to be calculated;
So if somewhere in your mums contract there is a clause that says a price can be revised due to a mis-quote then they may be going down that route.
But usually that bit is for glaring errors, like a £1000 holiday advertised on the net for £10.00 etc.

Write & complain too. It's amazing what a difference having a letter on file makes vs just talking to "people" over the phone! Quite often the person on the end of the phone is a £10 a day Saturday worker so couldn't give a sh*t what goes on or who's right & who's wrong ...

Which " Bath Travel" was it? I have used them many times in marlborough.
I would have got the local press in straight away. They would have made a call and this would have scared the Poo out of them.
Ive done it many times for friends. Call up and pretend to be the local press. It works wonders
