VEYRON.................. shows wealth, not many people gonna remortgage or get finance for that baby! And if they did/can good on 'em cos I know what the bank manager would say to me if I asked to get a loan or finance for one of them! As said in prev post shows wealthy only.....

The richest person I know (multi millionaire) has just upgraded from an S reg Fiesta Van to a 52 reg Mitsubishi Shogun...
...moral of the story, not everyone feels the need, or likes flashy motors

Financing does indeed put formerly expensive cars at a much broader reach ... and financing by the way does make sense even if you have the cash: why tie up a big chunk of cash in a depreciating asset (car), when you can invest it without too much risk and cover the interest, maybe even make more, and have it always readily available in case of a "rainy day".
However even with financing IMO the moment a person has an over 30k new car is doing pretty well, over 50k very well, over 100k is "wealthy" ... unless of course it's some nutter financially crippling him/her self for the car
The wealthiest people however rarely IMO go for the really showy stuff, which seems largely to be the domain of young-with-new-money (30-something entrepreneurs, footballers, pop stars, etc).
The wealthiest people I know well enough to know their garage content (family of 4 worth about 500 million US$) have:
husband (65) - silver CLK 63 AMG cabriolet
wife (59) - silver 991 996 C4 and black Cayenne Turbo
daughter (34) - silver Audi A6 avant 4
son (30) - black Audi RS4
All cars less then 3 y.o. and purchased new, usually changed every 2-3 years.
So a very nice garage but far from what you'd think with that sort of wealth. I once asked the husband why no so called supercars ..... his reply was that Lambos, Zondas, and such were "too over the top, impractical and silly-looking", Rolls and Bentley "stuffy", whilst Ferraris he really loves but "too loud looking, and usually driven by footballers or 60-something men with toupees and 20 y.o. girlfriends in the south of France".
One person's opinion I know ... I'd order an F-430 in an instant if I had a fraction of his means!

Seamaster, Maserati's are very classy when in the right hands, there is a private plated 2 door around here that kind of ruins it, I think the Quattroporte is beyond that, it has what the Bristol has plus a little continental charm as well.
By the way, I claim to be nothing special or think I am nothing special, born in the back end of Manchester, so its all observations.

older Maseratis are terrible ! I have a female client who has the latest (06) Quattroporte in grey and its real nice. I did hyde park in in twice and found the gear box to be fantastic. By God can it shift when required.
I am something special (my Mother was right)
Dont sell yourself short , you are a Gentleman in a sea of chavs.

My folks are well off and could afford some thing very nice indeed but instead my dad drives a Honda Civic and my mum drives a Renault Clio and to be honest they have never really had "posh" cars, its just not what they want to spent their money on.
When I passed my driving test (22 years ago) my dad said he would buy me my first car, id got things like Golf GTI's or even a Fiesta XR2, even my girlfriend at the time had a brand new XR2 but no my dad bought me a Hillman Avenger .....in Brown and he said "it gets you from A to B what more do you need" ? and this is how he still feels today.
I think that Brown Hillman Avenger scared me for life

Personally I think fellow Evo drivers are fairly well off due to running costs
On a serious note, I think if you have your whole car chromed you must hava a few spare quid

Richest bloke I know (stupidly, over the top loaded) drives an A plate XJ6 with about a million miles on it.
It's never caused him any trouble, he likes it and it does what he wants. His wife has a V plate Rover 400.
But they've got lovely houses and a terrific lifestyle. So fair play to them
I always think "nouveau riche" when I see Range Rover Sports, new Bentleys and the like. People who know the price of everything and the value of nothing.
Old money (class if you prefer) goes with more discreet, functional transport or something with similar class. Maybe a decent Ferrari, but again Bristol, Maserati, M5 (not the M3 though) or Land Rover. Or old Jags
