The cats are awake today then!
Listen. I was talking about prob 95% of cases. I do the job and i have the stats, you don't! I can only talk for my Service not the others. It also depends where you live in the country. I am fortunate enough to live in an area where shotguns in your face are once every ten years or more.
I try to be impartial on here, the Police don't always get it right, nobody can!
But i'm affraid facts are facts, take more care of your keys and less car's will be stolen, you can argue all you like, just the way it is.

Hi,

Sorry to hear about your car, hope they catch the bleepers

on the tracker subject, i have a monitor, which i dont know whether it works or not. So i called tracker and asked them if they could tell me whether it works.

I got the reply, "well sir we can come out and service your tracker battery for £80 and we recommend its done once every 3 years" . Stuff that....

AFAIK i think the tracker only activates itself if the car is tilted while the car is locked up or ignition off. At least thats what the installer said, ive jacked it up before and never had a call.... Maybe it has to be on its roof or side before the tilt registers

A courtesy car I had once had a tracker on it. We had to have it flat-bedded and received a call from the hire company; they'd been notified by the tracker company that the car was moving without the ignition being turned on. They wondered if we were on a train or ferry or something.

I wonder how many of these problems are down to bad installers....?

I had my tracker monitor for 3 years and never had a call - including those car washers where the car is pulled through, the day I wrote it off I had a call within minutes of it being winched on to the recovery truck. Must be a movement sensor in thats not too sensative!

The timing of this thread is very appropriate for me as I recently picked up my 02 STI and have been toying with the idea of subscribing to use the RAC Trackstar that is fitted. So I appreciate all of your comments here, however there is one point that doesn't make sense (or that I don't fully understand). That's the justification by RAC that the unit didn't report a theft because it had "went into sleep mode".

Like, what good is a security system in sleep mode?? I mean I realise that it must use some sort of low power mode in order to preserve your battery, however surely it can wake itself up at the appropriate moment and scream HELP - I'm being stolen at the top of its transmitter!? And not necessarily by being tilted during loading. What about the old fashioned 3 step plan to stealing a car that they teach at nursery school -1. disable cat1 alarm system, 2. hotwire ignition, 2. drive away quietly - smiling.

I don't expect RAC offer a disclaimer along the lines of "After 1 hour of inactivity our Trackstar is useless. It will only ever be activated again if your car is tilted by some numpty. Thank you for buying Trackstar"

I had to getr trakstar fitted for my insurance. Because of an IN10 (long story not as bad as it seems before anyone leaps to the wrong conclusion) the cheapest i could get it was a policy with tesco because of the discount with the mrs having her car insured with them. They needed a tracker but would protect my no claims.

The next nearest was Gary Molson who could do it for just £70 more but wouldn't be able to protect my (full) no claims bonus. I paid for the tracker because who knows how much that bonus could be worth if i was to have a claim of any sort.

5t.
