Les - its the honest decent hard working that generally get screwed - not the government..Shall I mention IHT, Council tax, Holiday Tax, Gas Tax, Road Tax, Speed Tax, Insurance Premium Tax, Looking at your car tax, More than 3 Vowels in a surname tax etc etc - if only my wage rose so quicly to keep pace.
I was absolutely DELIGHTED to find that we now get a few quid for our 3yr old to attend nursery . Missus is now looking for a job on the back of this. How bizarre - getting something back in return. Hope it is new government policy for all us 'milionaires' out there![Whatever Anim](images/smilies/Whatever_anim.gif)
MPR could you tell me more about "childcare vouchers....and if you're self employed....". God! If I can get a penny more back
Thx

Anymore than 26k (give or take) joint income and the gov will give you nothing towards childcare. The best you can ask for is tax credits (lol) and childcare benefit (lolol)
Even if a member of your family is disabled and unable to work...
I`m speaking from experience.
As for the half day sessions...no use nor ornament when your working full time. 9am - 11.30???

I dont think that's true Doc - EVERYONE gets limited pre-school nursery vouchers a year before school. Even the hardest workers, loadsatax-payers and those born with a silver spoon

Sorry, it means that you're probably screwed. You need to look into it - I've been doing it for over 2 years now (not long after the scheme started I think) and so the rules may have changed..... just another little bit of fiddling by fat ******* brown - but as I said, you've got to get back what you can from these tossers.

Well you need to be able to eat, and afford housing!
When the mother stops working then whats the salary then? How does one cope on £1000 per month in this day and age.
I'd suggest a household income needs to be over 3k pre month before even thinking about stopping contraception!

Regarding the childcare vouchers.
When the child is 3 at the start of a school term and is in private childcare the parents can claim 5 sessions per week. The sessions are classed as morning or afternoon and are worth a certain amount. Its far less than the nursery charges for a 1/2 day so don't think these sessions are free.
Basically in money terms if your child does 2 1/2 days or more a week you will save approx £400 a term - so £1200 a year. The money is paid to the nursery in 2 lump sums a term, so the nursery charges full whack until the voucher comes in, then refund you the voucher from your monthly bill. So it works out to 2 cheap months every 4.

Cheap being relative of course, considering I'm paying 10k a year on childcare, rising to 18k once the next one comes along.

Although you won't be entitled to any cash, you can ask for part of your salary to be paid as nursery vouchers. ( I think the scheme is administrated by a company called busy bees) This is decucted from salary before tax - so effectively you get a tax rebate on part of your salary. Both parents can claim this independantly. Obviously only works if using registered nursery, rather than local childminder.
ps- if you're self employed this doesn't work

Under the new rules, the childcare must be provided by a Ofsted registered or approved carer.
Ofsted Registered carers will include childminders, nurseries, after schools schemes, crèches and most play schemes. Approved carers will include nannies and childminders who might not otherwise be required to register. The care can be given in the child’s own home. Current carers who fall into this category who are not approved will be able to apply for approval through the fast track Childcare Approval Scheme. http://www.childcareapprovalscheme.co.uk/
Childcare provided in the child’s own home will not qualify if the carer is related to the child. Childcare provided by a relative away from the child’s home will not qualify unless the relative is also caring for unrelated children.

Bit of green eyed monster here, there are people on this forum that earn a lot more than that.
FYI Childcare is expensive, can be as much as a second mortgage, however the reason for taking advantage of the governments offer is so that your child can integrate into a schoool type environment before having to go.
I don't believe both(or either) parents need to be working to claim it. Info here Free early years education and the Foundation Stage - ParentsCentre

anyone on here who thinks 55k a year (1100 per week) is **** all then you all need a reality check !!! i am part time 7k + tax credits and wife is student nurse 8k + tax credits which equates to 20k(400 a week) at most....now as i said, if wew were both in full time work ie her not being a student then we would get full benefit for child care..... as it is we arent allowed it because she isnt in full time work....now think about it..when do yo uneed it most??? when on 8k or 20k......so that is why i was getting pissed off with mr 55k a year (nearly 3 times more than us and we are getting nowt child care ) and moaning !! you all need to have a ******* good look at your excessive lifestyles if you think 55k is nothing or bordering nothing...cant believe what i am reading ! !!! for the guy who started this pish, go back to the exuberant hole you came from ...a **** and a greedy basta*d!

Bottom line is you have **** all and seem to think that everyone else therefore deserves the same! I worked bloody hard for my degree (not a mickey mouse one, I might add) and work hard in my job. Many, many people in this country get paid more than I do.... and (in general as long as they aren't in the public sector

Most of us have been there and it makes it all the sweeter when you have a few quid spare.
Edited to say :
We also held off having a child until we knew we could afford her without resorting to relying on state handouts.... sorry if that is a bit near the bone, but it seems to be true... (of course, your circumstances may have changed and then it would be harsh to say that)

btw... worked my *** off... got o-levels, a-levels areospace engineering degree.... and then took an £8k per year job to get me going on the career ladder.
Worked f.hard at that, got promoted and so on and so on.
had kids when we could afford to and not when the benefits totted up nicely to make it worth our while.
Now I'm a regional sales director. Life is gr8.
Work for your money, and spend it on what you see fit. Life is all your own.
Enjoy it.

i am not angry but very disappointed in this guys attitude to grabbing as much as possibe and this governments pish policy ....i used to have my own business ( 6 blinds/soft furnishingd and interior decorating shops) and was successfull financially and business wise... we sold up to go to oz and take life easier as i was doing 80hr weeks and losing my mind !! so my wife is doing her last year in her degree and i am p/time watching kids to compensate for child care as we arent entitled as she isnt in full time employment... so if you cant understand why i think 55k is enough then i am lost ! we will be back on our feet in a years time and i can go back to f time work as can my wife ( 55k acheivable) but i wont try and screw the tax payer and public services...he cant justify that at all !!

Rab you are probably comparing my 55k to an equal amount when you were in business and property could be cheap. 1 Month of my current mortgage is equivalent to 7 months of my previous mortgage, my salary hasn't gone up 7 times in that period, we just want for her to beable to go to work and benefit from it or its not worth it, worked the figures out today and at the end of the week she will have 80 pound left not subtracting transport to work and parking costs

All he is saying is that we all like to get a little something back now and agaim - think carrot and stick; pay £10k in tax get £1000 back for 1 year only! That's all it is mate.
No sob story here, but if you earn £55kpa, a tax/NI hit could be around £20k inc council tax and a few tankfulls of super unleaded. Is it that wrong for G Brown & co to then enjoy 'only' £19k. They pi$$ that much up against the wall in 5 mins this lot...
Does that make any sense to you or is it still anathema to a socialist that's out for it all!?
D
PS I hope you will be paying as much tax as the rest of us within 12months - you sound ok

i know what you are saying but my tax bill (at the time was horrendous) it was his initial post that fcukd me off...(go back and read it) it does read as a boast to me anyway.....a bit like prince charles getting farming insentives and then opposing it for other farmers... i wil have to pay the going rate after we are back on track next year but we done it for hapiness not money !! i hated my life at work as a company owner/proprieter but i never asked for hee haw......a bit more sense in this govt would stop this division of rich and poor as its been thought out wrongly in the extreme !!!!!!!!
