Rab at the moment our household is on 40k it will be 55k when she starts back in training in October I am just trying to sort out a few figures to see If we can improve her situation. It is a matter of weighing up if it is worth the disruption for all of us for the sake of a tenner a day you must agree there would be a lack of motivation to go to work just to pay the child care bill.I knew the government were giving incentives to get mothers back to work and just wondered if we were entitled to it. It might be ignorant but I cannot believe we are not, we are not rich, not middle class but working class.

At least Rab you'll never go hungry you can always feast on that big chip on your shoulder

Having 3 kids myself I can confirm that when your kid is in it's last year of nursery you will get some support / vouchers that reduce the costs. Ours are deducted on a quarterly basis and amount to very little.

Does your / your wife employer run a childcare voucher scheme??? You can save quite a bit by opting to pay a nursery using childcare vouchers but it only works if your chosen nursery accepts them. The money is deducted out of your gross salary so you save approx 21% per year on your nursery fees.

If you want more details PM me and I will get more details for you.

Ignore the negatives from other people on here, we pay £1200 per month in nursery fees per month. Yep it was our choice to have 3 kids but by the same token neither of us have ever been on the dole or benefits, we have always paid our way, never sponged etc etc and as you rightly point out the government is wanting people to go back to work...................... so £1200 per month for part time nursery fees is an incentive to do that is it???

If it wasn't for the fact that both of us earn above average money that more than covers the nursery fees on an individual basis one of us would have given up work till they were all in school.

Like I say if you want more info on the voucher side of things drop me a PM.

Regards and good luck

How the hell can you have a nice home, car and holidays on less?
im on 20k ish a year working in a warehouse. my girlfriend is on around 12k a year doing similar work. shes 20, im 22, ive had my mortgage 2 years, have a three bedroomed house in a decent area, a scoob, and we live ok...

i think i prove your point wrong. although living in the london area would be more expensive, you dont need to earn 40k a year to have a scoob and a house of your own...

my tuppence anyway.

Nobody as far as I have seen has said that 55k is '**** all'. What has been mentioned is that 55k per year is hardly millionaires row, which is true. At the end of the day it's all relative and 100k a month to some people would be buttons to others. One thing that most of us can relate to is that a combined salary of 20k including tax credits is a truely pitiful amount unless you happen to be a goat herder from Somalia As someone had already pointed out, you do have a fairly large chip on your shoulder and shouldn't be having a go at others for your own failures in life.
