can't believe you've folded to the moaners, Simon no one goes complaining to the TV companies because they've made a program in 4:3 and it doesn't fill my new widescreen TV properly
#124
hehe..
Let me make this very clear. The moaners have been ignored. The people who respectfully said "I really don't like it, but I'll try it out for a month as you ask" have been fully supported

Any danger of putting this little snippet where it's easier to find instead of having to wade through 4 pages of "I want full screen "?
Other than that, it all looks pretty good.

Right..
100% for everyone here who said "I don't like the fixed width, but we'll do what you ask and give it a go" ...
We've added and option in you control panel :
Edit Options
Scroll to the bottom, and you should see an option there which you can change to full screen.
Now, it isn't going to look pretty, but if you're finding it a struggle to get used to, at least this will get you back to widescreen.
THANK YOU to everyone who was willing to put up with it and do as we asked.

Precisely. Those 9 words are buried amongst the 1219 words that constitute your first post.
Having waded through that a couple of days ago, I briefly skimmed it again but missed the edit.
Wouldn't it have been as easy to have also included that brief instruction in the announcements you have dotted around the forum? One of which prompted me to re-visit this thread in the first place.
PS Looks even better in full screen. Thanks

All sounds great, until there is some issue with these instructions, and the end result which ends up creating 50 threads all over the forum.
Anyway.. I'm glad you're happy. (stunned you counted and quoted the number of words! Clearly the amount of time it took to find those instructions wasn't eating into anything desperately pressing!!! )
ps. Please see light humour - as it was meant

Simon/Shaun,
Thank you for adding an option for variable width for the forums. To be honest, it does not look too bad, even on larger screens, plus switching between the various other options that use fixed width does seem to gel more than I thought it actually would.
My only comment would be to add a link to this thread in the "fixed width update" sticky you have in all forum sections, and if possible maybe make the "update" bit in the post an anchor so you could even link directly to it to stop comments about where the updated information exists.
Oh and being a tech geek, I'd be interested to know what you changed and where to acheive the change. I think I have an idea of where and what, but I'm curious to see if I'm right, and also it's always handy to know how to center things, espeically as it's not just a picture/logo but an image with a CSS menu.

Copy/paste into word doc. Then file/properties/statistics/wordcount = 10 secs.
It wasn't taken or meant as anything but good humour

Cheers Simon/Shaun, changes look good and the involvement with SWRT and Prodrive is an excellent achievement
Thanks for all the hard work you guys continue to put in.

Your car looks great on the front page Allan, I was watching at midnight as it changed over (i know!!)...
Markus, others. Understand everything you're saying.. But I'd rather not spend any more time on this now. We've put a bit of time into it to do a half hearted job of the option, just so it basically works for those who REALLY wanted it.. but I don't want it to turn into a load of time that we could have spent doing it properly, but adding anchors, discussing changes to html scripts, etc.
Glad its working out for now though. We may do a better job of it in the future.

Having just eaten an incredibly large piece of humble pie, i am now converted to the fixed width forum look. No i am not ill, no i am not sat here at gunpoint with a webmaster holding the gun, i think i am starting to like it! LOL.
I thank you for the option to make it full width, but unless it is done completely properly, as you say yourself, it will look cack.
So being as i have a goldfish memory and cannot remember how the other forum looked anyway, i shall now doff my hat to you webmaster, say sorry, and continue on my merry fixed width way!

I tried the fixed width thing, it's only advantage was having 2 pages open side by side, but that just looked odd.
Thanks for sorting it liking the improvements to the front end
Now all we need is Save button that works (without having to switch to Advanced) and then some shorter index lines.
Every page is now listed as 'Scoobynet - Subaru Impreza Portal and C' in the 'Back' window with no indication as to which part of Scoobynet it relates to
Admittedly in the History window you can point to it and get the url to pop up, but that's still a bit of a pain if you just want to flip pack to a page you were reading earlier. Do you really need the full line in there every time???

ROFL @ MaDaSS
Don't worry, you're in good company. So far, only 32 people are using the wide screen, and that has dropped from about 75 earlier today as people were trying it out.
Like I said. I used it for two months before releasing it on you lot, and I actually like it now
--
Save button. It does work. It just doesn't refresh the post, so it looks like it hasn't worked. We'll sort that out soon.
Valid point about the window title. Please post that in the bugs and features forum if you get a chance and we'll add it to the list.

^^^^ Must just be yours as its fine on Firefox and IE7 on mine.
Well done and thank you to Simon/Shaun for the quick fix for the full screen/fixed width issue. Using full screen at home on a widescreen monitor and fixed width at work on a smaller LCD so got the best of both now

I get the same error as Daz34, tried it on two machines with different screen sizes, fixed-width and full-width, happens on both.
Firefox 2.0.0.1
It appears to be the scrolling messages are all written to the same line at the same time.
