Indeed.

For some time we didn’t admit it publicly, but the truth is that we have not done any WRC work since Rally Evolved shipped. SCEE and ISC (the rights holders) are still having executive conversations, but the licence expired last year and the future of the WRC franchise is anyone’s guess. It doesn’t help that the sport recently lost several key car manufacturers.

Yeah, Codemasters still retain the Colin McRae licence, but as he's no longer actively involved in the World Rally Championships they've had to scratch their heads as to what kind of game they could make. They came up with...

Colin McRae - DIRT

As usual with Codemasters, they release lots of hi-res screenshots, which the final game never looks like...

So we could see it coming to the Xbox, or will it vanish?

I had a X360, at launch, but sold it because there was no games, especially no WRC/Driving games. Now have the Wii as a stop-gap, until the PS3/X360 has a decent driving game.

What driving games has the Wii got then?

360 has PGR3 & Test Drive:Unlimited. Forza 2 comes out in a couple of months as well.

I suppose it could come to Xbox - but it all depends on how appealing a WRC licenced game would be these days. Would it be fair to say the sport seems to be in decline ?

Wow! Amazing to think you bought and sold the Xbox360 so quickly. Agreed, there's isn't much in the way of quality driving sims for it (in my opinion!) A mate of mine is waiting on a good driving simulator coming out for either PS3 or Xbox360. I've told him to hang on for Forza II or GTR on Xbox360, as Gran Turismo won't appear til 2008 on PS3.

As for me, I'm still waiting for the games to MAKE me buy either PS3 or Xbox360. Its a bigger decision than my previous console purchases as this time around everything is geared for HD, so I'll need to upgrade the TV in my den.

I can assure you, DIRT is looking amazing. It's an all-new engine, and the 360 and PS3 versions look jaw-dropping, especially the damage effects.

Simbin will be bringing GTR and Race to consoles soon, which could help to broaden the audience for the more hardcore sim games.
