not to sure steve, i was super quizzed up on it last year when buying one but cleared room in the skull for other stuff once i bought it/tried it! Your right about what suits each driver etc, just i thought what you wanted sounded very like what i wanted and hence where i ended up going car wise when i had the chance. I'll have a look later and see what i can get for you, cheers sc.

Ok, if I had a lot of money (like I said before) I would still acquire a Scooby, but a beast of course!
I would instead by a Jaguar Coupé or an Aston Martin as a second car, both of which blow the German pig out of the water just in design!

I'd agree about the Aston......but the Jag really is nothing special.
I've seen one in real life too, and I just thinks its a jelly mould car.

Just when they put on a Jaguar badge he seems to put awkward shut lines and panel seams into the design too.
Back to the tpoic in question though...If I were given the choice of a "real" performance car and a basic family saloon car with a crude turbo strapped on, I know what my choice would be.

There was a pretty big discusion on this topic with
ace drivers Simon and John F. about 4 years ago...
Here: https://www.scoobynet.com/other-marq...tocar+handling
Note that John and Simon felt the 996 Turbo is
not necessarily the safest to drive fast. JL

Lambo? No, too flash; you will be scared to leave it anywhere, inpractical etc and massive running costs (read EVO Magazine)
Corvette? No, sitting on the wrong side will slow your progress on UK roads.
Mustang? No, see above.
TVR: No, just not the same 'level'
Ferrari? A close call, but 'fragile'?
Aston: very very close call!
Cayman? veryveryvery close call
But: can they do the All-Rounder trick where the car does so much?
And if you must have 4 seats and a real boot, get the AUDI RS4.
And I'm a 911 fan, actually own one and have been a Porsche Club member for 17 years.

Ferrari a close call.....but can you really use this as daily transport?
I'm certain for most the servicing costs would put most people off.
I'd imagine even on my salary I'd have no problems keeping a new Porsche on the road for 3 years and 36k miles.....not sure I could say the same about the Ferrari.

The 911 Turbo in any guise will never be the best 911. For one reason; It has a Turbo.
Decent "drivers" Porsches like any real "drivers" car don't have a turbo

hi there guys
i wouldnt spend 60k on a porsche even if i had the money.
like all cars they lose a lot of money as soon as they leave the show room)
my cousin has just bought a 996 with sportpack upgrade 350bhp.he payed
40k for his...used of course!! but to be honest i think hes nuts. when you can
pick up a scooby for far less ..and it would whip his *** around country roads and he hardly uses it..ive all way been i porsche man as i still have a 1986 944 which i had remapped and an induction kit put on it.but it still was only about 185bhp.dont getme wrong the germans know their stuff and make
nice cars..but the scoobys i think for the money u cant go wrong)

As an every day car I would take the STI. Old porkers are a clunky heavy drive and feel like you have done a few rounds with Mike tyson after a few miles in them. Even the older ones with the G50 G/box is a handful IMHO.
I loved the looks on my old 964 C4, but it didn't feel quick and felt a heavy car to drive even though it was light. It was a car to buy for the badge not the driving experience IMHO.
My brothers 'W' reg 911 turbo rebuilt with 500bhp/500ft/lb through a re-geared 150mph box and coilover suspension with stock looks and original fuch alloys, is just mental but in realilty total undrivable other than in a straight. His daily commute car is a Tekked Classic running 300bhp. And even he admits the Scoob is a far better user friendly daily car on UK bumpy pot hole roads and damp conditions.
A older porcshe is for weekends a scoob can be used all the time. 2 Very different cars and can't really be compared at all.
Jap "clutter" is a great way of owning a very fast car on a budget.

I guess I look at it from a different spepective as I go to the 'ring a lot.
...none of the cars you mention would get around the ring as good as a 911. By good I don't mean the fastest time, but being able to do 15 laps a day for 2 days and then drive me home.
On half of them the brakes would have failed, at least one would have over heated, and the other costs too much money!

OIC, so we should all bow to the 911?
A Type25 would waste them all!! End of story!
I have to get ze Germans doing a test on that machine, but then again they are prolly too scared and will just ignore it! LOL

A good example of stupididty is the post above yours....does he really think the type 25 will kick all 911 ***.
...and a yuppie car? please, in the same way a Subaru is a chavs car I guess.

I know mate - it does make entertaining reading as well
I think the point is that although of course a Type 25 won't kick the butt of the "higher" end porkers, ie turbo, GT3, GT4, Carrera GT, but just how expensive are they compared to it ??
For £40k there's not going to be many other (new) cars in the same sorta price range that could live with it on the twisties and be a civilised 4 door family saloon (ok that's maybe pushing it a bit )
* Puts on flame suit in readiness *
"dross" n "stupidity" - only if you think so mate
yuppie car - well yes they did get that label back in the 80's when those well off b*nkers in the City all started buying them - guess it's just stuck around
i'll still take the chav car any day tho
