I've been using Vista for a couple of months now. On the whole, I find it a little more unstable than XP was. It may be down to the drivers I'm using though. There are also no compelling new features in my opinion. I'm still just as happy plugging away on Windows 2003 or XP.
"Holy Ghost". Thanks for your considered post too, I'm not an IT nerd, but seriously p*ssed off that I need to replace one of my key systems (which works perfectly), just because Microsoft wants everyone to move to .Net. I Googled around trying to find out what the value-added by .Net would be to the user - and the answer I found was a load of marketing talk but no hard, cold facts. Don't get me wrong, I loved NT compared to 3.11, but XP only slightly moved the game forwards. Vista doesn't do that at all, it seems.
To the sheep on here who are unable to spot marketing puff masquerading as a news story, I have but one word for you : BAAAAAAAA
My next home 'puter will be a Mac, that's for sure

Then you can see what MS will be trying to get into their 2012 offering. Most of the new features Vista has have been in OSX for at least 3, and some up to 6 years, and all running with perfect stability and without the threat of virus's. Some good mpegs on YouTube using Bills promotional voiceovers for Vista but showing Mac screens from several years back

There's about 8 of them, unless someone's combined them. Everything from Vista's new photo management and basic editing abilities (iPhoto), it's fabulous new metadata search facilities (Spotlight) and it's multimedia capabilities (iTunes, Frontrow, Quicktime etc). OS X is also 64bit if your machine is. When will people wake up Mac users usually also use PC/MS (I do but not by choice ) but choose Mac, Mac-bashing MS nerds opinions are usually based on no experience and lots of heresay Come on ye switchers

I switched to Mac a couple of years back with an iMac G5. It was a superb bit of kit and I loved it, but, I sold it after 6 months and switched back to PCs as it didn't do what I needed.
I run lots of utilities day to day, like the software that comes with mobile phones, Open University stuff, Cisco network simulators, training packages etc etc. Virtually none have a Mac version, so I either have to buy a copy of Virtual PC with another licensed copy of XP*, or try and find a Mac equivalent which often just doesn't exist. I prefer not to use pirated software these days, which is my choice.
So It's a lot easier for me to stick with a PC. Plus I've been building PCs and using them since I was at school, from my first which was an 8088 cpu. So I know PCs/Windows inside out now and am comfortable with most things they can throw at me.
I think if the ration of Mac users and PC users was the other way round (and Mac softeware was more commonly used by the masses) to what it is, I'd definately be using a Mac though - no question.
Anyway, where's the courier with my new 2.33 GHz core 2 duo laptop with Vista Ultimate that's supposed to be arriving today? I want to start fixing bugs!!
