Common theme here, Spec C
I own a Spec C & it's by far & away the best / fastest car I've owned to date. Previous cars incl GTi6, HITR, WRX STi V etc. It is seriously rapid & spools up v quickly from low revs. Bit too quick for me TBH so I need to invest a bit of time in my driving skills ... scary!!

Spec C seems to be the order of the day hear, and I must agree twin scroll and with a good 3inch exhaust on full chat..... What a great sound
and a very strong bottom end I believe so fairly indestructible if looked after.

Tx invest in a couple off trackdays with the likes off javelin with instruction you will learn a lot, best move I ever did the only problem its like a drug.

How loud is the Spec C on motorway or driven hard. I have a STI UK and even on that I had to get noisekiller putting in as I do go on the motorway a few times? Note that was when I had the prodrive exhaust too which is more quiet than my current Miltek (which is great). Also what is the comfort level of the Spec C vs the STI. Just asking for future reference as I will be looking at the Evo X or a Spec next year!

Warranty is good but then depends what you want to do with the car.
Had 3 UK cars before Spec C and just 6 months on Spec C sure enough KYB suspension starting knocking replaced it with AST's (good move) nothing since then has gone wrong 40,000 miles of road, track and euro blasting plus you dont have main dealer pricing for servicing every 5000 miles so you save there.
Tried to sell it (T20 spec very few bites same as SADAM I expect), no one would part ex except for silly money so have decided to keep it until the new Evo x RS or scooby 10 Spec C is available its a great car, Pratical but not a family car

I'm still in 2 minds- the problem is it's all my spare cash- if something DID go wrong it would take a month or longer to get the cash to fix it

spec c's are designed for track conditions which are a lot harsher then normal driving conditions,if your worried about the reliability buy one which has not been tracked or drag raced etc.

What could really go wrong though? They're fairly bullet proof aren't they? Spec C is the base car for the rally cars (?) so it must be a tough machine. Aftermarket warranty (good one rather than Motorsomethingorother )?

Engine... stonger than its uk equivelant
engine oil cooler, uk doesnt have one
transmission oil cooler, uk doesnt have one
These are the biggest points that will cost you the most money, and ive yet to hear of a JDM twin scroll engine blowing up, though you hear it of uk cars
Suspension, the spec c has a different suspension set up, its not the same as the other uk cars, or japanese ones, it doesnt suffer the same problems there either
Truth is that you need to go and drive both, the PPP is good, the JDM has moer power and is more capable out of the box

No you're not - you've just got your head screwed on. At the moment it sounds like you have a sensible income:expenditure balance and if you haven't then it looks like you at least appreciate the importance of having one. It is very dangerous asking the Scoobynet 'experts' which car you should buy as none of them leave a footnote at the bottom of their posts indicating the state of their personal finances. For all we know, all these people could have massive debts spread across numerous credit cards and bank loans and are no more qualified to tell you which car to buy than Tony Blair is qualified to lecture on morals.
If you are worried about spending your last penny on a very expensive motor then you can't really afford it. Look for something else that excites you that still leaves you with a few quid to fall back on. There is nothng worse than having to count pennies every month because you've ploughed everything into one purchase.

Correct, the cars are broadly the same price. However, given his statement about worrying about spending every penny he has on the car I think my comments are well founded. If it was left to everyone else on this forum he would have spent his money already. As usual I am the lone, unfashionable voice saying that he shouldn't leave himself penniless in pursuit of a car whose performance he will never fully explore on the road. I know I have a reputation for being boring, but this is one of those occasions where being sensible would be sensible.

I am of the philosophy that if you have to worry about spending money on these cars then maybe you cannot afford the car in the first place. They can be a continuous cash cow, regardless of whether it is a JDM or UK car.
There is no point in stretching yourself financially.

do you want a rally car or a road car? if your using the car eveyday and not using for racing everyhting in sight id go fro the uk sti with ppp pack. if you want a track weapon at the cost of some luxurys and comfort id go for the spec c.
