If this is the same event the Ruby Wax Programme did you NO favours, to me it looked like a bunch of rich idiots enjoying their expensive toys at the risk of everybody in the places unfortunate to receive a visit. Dont get me wrong, I love cars, I love driving and its not a jealousy thing just I for one wouldnt want to have been shown on the programme, I mean 150 with a hangover through villages where the locals kids wander around and they drive carts.

The event that was on the Ruby Wax programme was the GUMBALL 3000. The Cannonball Run Europe 2002 is NOT that event.

This event is NOT a race. It is for people who love driving and love cars. The Cannonball Run Europe 2002 is an event to be enjoyed and is targeted at everybody. We have structured this event so that each check point is reachable with out breaking any speed limits. Anyone found to be racing, fooling around on this event will be thrown off. Misbehaving will not be tolerated on the Cannonball Run Europe.

This event will be Challenging but enjoyable, which is the main thing.

Thanks for the post, just wanted to clarify that this isn't the same event.

Hi Chris,

We spoke over the phone on this when it was just an idea you were running through. Firstly, although I'll have to ask you to forgive the luke warm reception you've had here, you must also understand that some people are justifiably concerned with this whole event. The Ruby Wax program (which I thought was one of the best programs of the year) did show the immoral side of these kinds of events.

Will this event be timed? And if so, will it be marketed as a race?

Thanks for the post.

I totally understand that some people are, justifiably, concerned with this whole Event, due to the Ruby Wax program.

My colleague and the Event Manager participated in the Gumball Rally, this year, and thought that the idea was superb but the opportunity was there to improve the idea.

The Cannonball Run Europe 2002 is NOT a race. There will be no prises for reaching a checkpoint first or the first person to complete the Cannonball Run Europe. Anyone found to be racing on the journey will be thrown off as we will not tolerate any fooling around.

We have structured the event, that each check point is reachable without breaking any speed limits. We know exactly how long it takes between each check point and anyone found to reach a check point in a time we consider too fast, will be dealt with by the organisers.

On the Cannonball Run Europe 2002, there will be 3 track days at 3 world famous European tracks. Here, participants will be able to push as hard, or as slow, as they like. The track is the place for pushing your car, not the roads.

Mr annonball, Sorry for confusing your event with the Gumball Rally, they were a complete bunch of idiots. Hope your event is a success, would entertain it myself but am short of the 2 grand and the wife and kids would object, maybe in a few years

That's fine. A few people have confused the events, and I am glad you asked that just so I can distinguish the two events.

The Cannonball Run Europe 2002, will be its debut year and will be starting of a great annual event. We are already starting to think about possible future routes.
