after selling my RB5 I had all intentions of moving on and away from the Scooby scene.

After driving a few cars I had set my mind on, I was somewhat disappointed with them, mainly being 2WD and the other expensive for what they offered.

I turned back to Subaru because the new 2.5 engine and looks appealed and the price tag met my budget, it was also a true 4 door family car.

M3/RX-8/997 Carrera > no room for kids
Focus ST > lack of grip
RS4 > far too expensive
Civic type R (new) > not released

Impreza > ticked every box and LUVVIN IT

back in '99 I had to change company cars, and could choose any from an extensive list, only ever saw one Impreza prior to that, and that was an old sales guy at work had a silver wagon, which I didnt really think much to at the time (spec wise etc, but knew it drove like it was on rails)

I couldn't have a new Honda Prelude (company policy no more 2 door cars) so I went to pretty much most dealerships to look at my options

The lease company suggested an Impreza Sport (no turbos, too dear) I went to see one, quite liked the dark blue, so in the end opted for a brand new 99 Impreza Sport, and in the 2 years, 8 months I had the car, I managed to clock up 125,000 miles (pretty much foot flat to the floor most of the time, it didnt have an easy life lol)

The only things that needed replacing were 2 sets of tyres (pretty good going, 40k per set of tyres) and a clutch (after 30k miles, due to going to brum and back every day sitting in 10 miles of stop start traffic in the morning, and 10 miles at night), and just before I handed it back, the steering rack had started to get a little play on the drivers side

It never broke down, always started 1st time, and never ever let me down

So when it came to opt out of the company car scheme and get a car allowance, I decided to choose between a Toyota Celica or an Impreza Turbo

I had almost decided to get the Celica, until I looked through all the running costs, and the Impreza Turbo was cheaper to run (minus mod's lol) and so I got a MY00 Sonic Blue dutch import with 12k on the clock 2.5 years old (at time of purchase) and virtually never driven in the rain (till my test drive, and the previous owner nearly cried as the rain hit the car )

it now has 90k on the clock, and it has always started first time, still on the original clutch (although showing some wear now) and the only things Ive had to replace is tyres

So I guess my reason for having an Impreza is reliability, 8 years worth now, and counting

I bought mine coz i thought i was a car i'd be happy with as standard and wouldn't need to spend any money on (apart from maybe a nice set of wheels)

I was right for about a year , then it all went wrong, now turns out to be the most expensive car i've ever owned coz i can't leave it alone .
