It’s a **** hole but go to Khao san as it’s where you can meet other Backpackers and gets some info on where to go and how to get there. There is a road opposite near a temple called Pra something which has a few nice places and one has a pool. Get a rough Guide to Thailand or Asia if you can worth every penny. Bangkok to Chang Mai or Chang Rai for trekking and rafting followed by back to Bangkok or Sukothai and then to Kanchanaburi on the death railway . head down south to The Islands Ko Samui Ko Pan Angh Ko Tao and Ko Phi Phi. A trip to Krung Ching is well worth it but hard work. You can travel from Thailand to Cambodia by bus usually Siem reap. For 5 dollars a day you can get a moped driver to show you all over Ankor temples which is a must do and club in with a few people to get a tour guide as he will teach you loads about current Cambodia and the ruins as well. You can get a boat from siem Reap to Phnom Phen and spend a few days there visiting Tuol Sleng ,the killing fields the war museum and then go shooting Ak 47's and rocket launchers. (To save cash hire a bike to drive to the shooting range and get discount other wise the taxi driver’s commission keeps the price high.) After Phnom Pen either chill out on the Beach resort near by or catch a boat up the Mekong into Vietnam. Remember though that the town they land you in is Backwards so catch a bus straight to Saigon or Ho Chi Minh City as it’s called. Saigon is an all action hard drinking mental place . Day time go to see various war related sight seeing. Night time rent a moped taxi for the night and get pissed in loads of mental bars. After a while head up to tourist trail to nah Trang for a few days chill on the beach and ask at a few of the smaller hotels for Mr Duc. He can take you on a motorbike tour into the real Vietnam through some mountain Passes and cool places very few tourists ever get to see. After Nahtrang travel up on the buses stopping at a whatever towns take your fancy but the ultimate destination in Hanoi. Again Hanoi is a great city. Travel agents do a few trips Halong bay which is a must see and at night get drinking. After Hanoi go to Laos which is the best of the lot. Get out of Vientien as fast as possible on an early morning local bus not the crappy tourist coaches. Go to Vang Vien, The Plains of jars, Luan Pra Bang and see every water fall every trip you can as its all good. After that back into Thailand and if you didn’t go already Chang mai and/or chang Rai.
If you have time after that head south through Thailand with a stop on the beach to Malaysia Indonesia etc but I have ranted on Long enough now.

Hi
I can't say I approve of the whole BKK rich european vs economic migrant sex worker scene. I find the whole thing rather sad on many levels. Just my opinion and I ain't a prude or kill joy.
But, if you're near Khao san then the Bamboo (plywood, more like) Guest House is where many of the overland bikers hang out. Clean and cheap when I was there. Thailand's a fantastic country and a big thumbs up for Cambodia too!
Have fun
Sean

There is a great book available in a few places around south east asia about how the south east asia sex trade works and once read doubt anyone would have the stomach to pay for sex there. The Mafia are the only ones who get rich and most girls are sold into to it by parents or kidnapped to pay debts parents have run up to local Mafia.

I basically have 3 months to travel south east asia. So i have from the 20th May until the 20th Aug to get myself from Bangkok to Bali (where i fly to Cairns) Fingers crossed that should be plenty of time to do all of the above and more?

If you ever did business in Asia you would probably be offered girls or taken to a club out of hospitality. It's so routine no-one bats an eyelid.
Don't be too quick to judge their cultures until you fully understand them.
What is worth mentioning is that Thai sex workers operate outside of the normal Thai society.
Most Thai women have more morals that western girls and would never engage in one night stands or act in a cheap or slutty manner. most would never even think about being seen alone with a Westerner on a date for fear they would be thought of as a prostitute, so the stereotype is pretty unfair to them and they are some of the nicest people you could ever meet.

I can assure you that all of the girls forced into the sex trade by dept owed to the local thai mafia do not service to many European's in Bangkok they work in brothels specifically geared up for Thai nationals only. I also know of a few stupid European men that have been exploited to the tune of tens of thousands of pounds by Thai bar girls or if you like migrant sex workers !!
